Videos: PartnerRe Women’s 5K Road Race
Hundreds of women made their way to the Botanical Gardens this Sunday [Oct 7], for the 15th Annual PartnerRe Women’s 5K Run & Walk.
Jennifer Alen crossed the line in a time of 19:27 to claim victory, with Hilda Stoney finishing 2nd, Kristyn Robinson in 3rd, Victoria Fiddick in 4th and Deon Breary finishing 5th. Ashley Irby won the Junior 2K Race, while Winnelle Simons was the first walker across the line.

Well done to all who participated in the road race!! Wonderful effort!! I must, however, again appeal to the organizers of these road events to insist that the walkers be mindful of the vehicular traffic that is trying to accommodate them and still get past them. There is still a good amount of traffic on the roads, particularly those attempting to get to church. As there appears to be a greater amount of charity walks springing up, there is a greater chance of a nasty accident occurring. And no….not everyone is aware of these walks and can take detours, so let’s work together. Please use sidewalks when available, look behind you and move out of the way when you see traffic approaching..the phrase “Single file” comes to mind..keep baby strollers as far to the left as possible, don’t dart between cars when trying to overtake the person in front of you, wait for proper instructions before crossing the street and ONLY cross where it has been clearly marked by the organizers. Those spots are for YOUR safety. Can we PLEASE have a safe and pleasant road-racing/walking season??
