Louise Jackson To Seniors: ‘Your Vote is Secure’

December 16, 2012

OBA MP Louise Jackson has assured seniors that their vote is protected against anyone seeing how they marked their ballot.

Mrs Jackson said: “There are no cameras in the voting booth, or any other device that can take a picture of your mark on the ballot. There are officials guarding your vote. No one can see your ballot or know how you voted.

“Also, I am told that some seniors and other residents have been led to believe they will lose their housing or jobs if they don’t vote for a certain party or individual.

“That is not correct. Please be assured that you are safe and secure in your government housing and jobs. It is your right and your privilege to vote for who you want to vote for. Do not be frightened. Your vote is safe and closely guarded,” Mrs Jackson concluded.

Mrs Jackson presently holds the C#20 Pembroke South West seat, however she is retiring and her daughter Susan Jackson will contest the seat for the OBA. She will be challenged by the PLP’s Marcus Jones and Independent candidates Jonathan Starling and David Petty.

PLP has been using devices their whole campaign. I wouldn’t put it across the green regime putting hidden cameras in the booth. They are in despar as paula cox is sending out video clips asking people to listen and view them before they go out and vote plp SMH. lol

    • RME says:

OMG are you really that delusional to believe any of the parties would do that. I guess you don’t know that before the polls open, 2 individuals from each party are allowed in to inspect the actual polling booths, see inside the ballot boxes to make sure they are empty and to make sure they are satisfied. And it goes without saying the volunteers from teh Parliamentary registrar would do their own due diligence as well I’m sure .
You my dear are the one that sounds desperate. I suppose if your people don’t win tomorrow you are already coming up with a story of how the PLP supposedly rigged it. Get a life.

SMH I have seen and heard it all! How did this garbage even make the news? If this is how paranoid we’ve become then I don’t know.

        • Thank You says:

Thank you Mrs Jackson for sticking up for people who have the little voice in the loud room. You shouted loud for Seniors to make their voices heard. I know you have made certain that this continues under the OBA. Proud of you Mrs Jackson.

The voting booths are completely safe, noone will see.

    • Senior Advocate says:

Louise needs to StoP SCARING SENIORS. As a senior advocate, Louise confuses them. She is the one that stated the OBA was going to get rid of future care and all that garbage.

Louise go sit down and rock yourself to sleep.

you are a sick and twisted a===s

    • Thank You says:

Why would you say that to an elder, who is doing nothing but reassuring an older generation who have genuine fear of crime and people taking away what they have. The booth is safe and your vote is private.

  3. LaVerne Furbert says:

Mrs. Jackson doesn’t stop does she? She’s once again misleading (lying) seniors again. She really would like for Bermuda to believe that seniors (and I am one) are all stupid.

    • C.B.A says:

You burnt your bridges with seniors a few weeks ago. Don’t look for support there.

    • Thank You says:

The booths are safe , no matter what the PLP try to say to scare you. They will never know how you vote!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Kim Smith says:

Pleasae, go and see where you can make a contribution, for a change.

    • Zombie Apocalypse says:

She’s misleading seniors? How? She’s reasssuring them their votes are secret. For some reason that upsets you.

  4. another law abiding citizen says:

Get a life lavern furbert, there’s nothing wrong with assuring voters that their vote is confidential. Ur the one that doesnt stop talking ur nonsense smh

  5. Groundhog says:

Louise Jackson is right in raising the issue of confidentiality in the voting booth. I know many seniors (and younger voters too) who are afraid that someone will spy on them to find out how they voted and that they may be somehow punished if they didn’t vote a certain way. A secret ballot is just that…secret…unless a person chooses to tell someone, anyone, how they intend to or have voted.

Nobody has a right to know how another has voted and the best way to allay fears of retribution or ridicule is to keep your choices to yourselves.

    • Amazed says:

People want to pretend that they have info that others dont and they therfore know best. Until today this was not an issue. I am sure Mrs Jackson has an agenda!

      • Hey says:

Really….she is stepping down….she has nothing to gain…

  6. GOD 1st says:

Laverne Furbert Give Bermuda a break please. Thank ya

  7. GOD 1st says:

PLP set up a big event in advance assuming they would win
