Photos/Video: Friswells Hill Christmas Parade

December 16, 2012

The second annual Friswells Hill United Children Christmas Parade and Party took place this afternoon [Dec 16], with a host of local entertainment, food and a visit by Santa Claus.

The Pembroke neighbourhood’s parade featured participants from Corner Stone Nursery, The Pathfinders, Rabble Riders, House of Prayer Sunday School Ministry, Take the Lead Dance Group, Friswells Hill scramblers, Warner Gombeys, Gombey Warriors and more.

The parade was opened Simeon Winters Pearman and Terrie-Lynn Bascome, with the Fire Department providing a truck for Santa to ride on, while Island Construction donated a truck to carry musical equipment.

Cartoon characters were donated by Josette Brimmer, and Elmo, Dora the Explorer, Diego, Boots, Woody, and Princess all amused the crowd by performing the electric slide dance. Premier Paula Cox was present, and could be seen smiling and tapping her feet as the Gombeys came and danced in front of her.

Friswells Hill United co-chairs Vernon Weirs Jr. and Terrie-Lynn Bascome organised the event, which had music provided by DJ Iceman, and offered a variety of free food which was all cooked and donated by residents in the neighbourhood.

this is SO good to see. this area has such a stigma and it’s such a great neighbourhood, a few small problems take over the positive things that go on in areas like this.
