Photos #1: 2012 Christmas Day At Elbow Beach

December 25, 2012

Hundreds of people made their way to Elbow Beach today [Dec.25], spending the day socializing and celebrating the holiday on one of Bermuda’s most popular beaches.

Starting from early this morning, cars began to line up at the entrance of Elbow Beach, and soon spilled out all along South Road – prompting the police to issue a warning that vehicles parked illegally will be ticketed and run the risk of being towed.

The annual Christmas get together is a long standing tradition, and usually sees the participants wearing seasonal attire. This year is no different, with plenty of Christmas-themed attire to be seen, with people wearing Santa hats, reindeer antlers and even mini Christmas trees on their heads. Very nice celebration. Unfortunately, the police were having a ball putting tickets on all the cars parked along the roadside by Elbow! Bah humbug to the policemen doing it!

    • frank says:

    • bermudian says:

      • Triangle Drifter says:

You obviously have not been on Queen St in the area of KFC anytime in the past 20 years have you?

      • 41st thief says:

Chip on your shoulder maybe? Ex-pats having more fun than you? Good.

  2. Tyrone says:

When people obey the law and park legally AND sensibly, the police won’t have to issue tickets… The parking was atrocious….. Bah to that.

  3. Just Us says:

I wish they’d come and ticket the cars always parked illegal in my neibourhood…

  4. No Scrooge but .... says:

I just hope they cleaned up after themselves, many times I have gone for a walk along that beach and found myself collecting the trash after their Christmas bash. One year we counted 41 empty champagne bottles thrown along the beach not to mention glasses and other types of empty containers. this is a public beach for ALL to enjoy.

  5. Sandgrownan says:

I’d like to lodge a complaint….too many Onions..this was always an expat gig!!!!

    Merry Christmas!

  6. skippa says:

With all the drinking of booze going on,I just wonder if these
people realise that Christmas is a celebration of Jesus Birthday.

    • status! says:

@skippa—i didn’t realize it was a celebration of jesus birthday? Where can I find this information? I still don’t know what the fuss is..

      • Will says:

really, jesus actually existed?! i always thought he was a gardener from Puerto Rico…please find me some definitive historical proof that a) Jesus was born on 25 Dec b) that he even existed. and the bible doesn’t count as solid historical proof

        • tHeMadproPhet says:

“It was a custom of the Pagans to celebrate on the same 25 December the birthday of the Sun, at which they kindled lights in token of festivity. In these solemnities and revelries the Christians also took part. Accordingly when the doctors of the Church perceived that the Christians had a leaning to this festival, they took counsel and resolved that the true Nativity should be solemnised on that day.”

This idea became popular especially in the 18th and 19th centuries and is still widely accepted.

The police should’ve administrated breathalyzers to everyone on the beach including the dog.

    • Will says:

oh and booze and jesus go hand in hand…he did reportedly turn water into wine..if that doesn’t scream alcoholic i dont know what does!

    • 41st thief says:

      Yawn, I prefer the booze.

  7. Dude says:

The cars were very dangerously parked along the whole corner…

I figure the police were very nice to direct what became one-way traffic safely around the corner…

They could have just ordered the cars to be towed at the owners’ expense…

  8. skippa says:

    DRUNKS – Hell awaits!
Disgusting!just making a mockery of Jesus birthday.

  9. Private Pyle says:

Geesh! No comments about how sexy the ladies are?

  10. bir says:

typical police you would think they would have given those a break nope!!! unfortuante.

otherwise happy to see you all had a great time \

  11. American Zero says:

The police were actually great, they made an announcement and some decided not to move their cars.

It is well known every year where to park if you do not want a ticket, however sometimes being lazy is worth $50.

As always, it was my favorite day of the year, ex-pats, onions, dogs, children, grandparents and all.

    Happy New Year
