Nahki Wells Ranked #4 In Entire League Two

January 21, 2013

Nahki Wells Bermuda November 12 2011-1_wmBermuda’s Nahki Wells is not only the top scorer for Bradford City, he is the fourth most prolific goal scorer in the entire League 2 of English Football.

His most recent goal boosted his total to 17 goals so far this season, 13 in the League, and 4 in the Cup.

This far exceeds the 12 goals he scored last season — which was his first as a professional.

The former Dandy Town player’s goal tally actually exceeds the next two highest goal scorers for Bradford – who combine for 15 goals.

With the League goals counting towards the stats, Wells is listed fourth on the scorers table for League 2 – which compromises hundreds of players from 24 different teams.

Tom Pope from Port Vale FC is first with 24 goals, Jamie Cureton from Exeter City is second with 16, and Adebayo Akinfenwa from Northampton Town is third with 14 goals.

With the other three mentioned above all hailing from the UK, Wells is the top scoring international striker in League 2, and can be credited with heightening the profile of Bermuda in some circles.

As everyone who has watched Bradford’s recent games knows, the sports commentators frequently mentioned that Wells was Bermudian, even drawing reference to some of the island’s other footballers such as Shaun Goater and Kyle Lightbourne.

The 22-year-old striker has also earned thousands of online mentions for Bermuda, with a Google search for ‘Nahki Wells’ + ‘Bermudian’ [plus searching the incorrect spelling 'Bermudan' which is widely used by overseas media] returning some 60,000 results – which increases daily.

A 6-minute video compilation of Nahki Wells career from Vimeo user Luke Cooper:

Wells is considered to have been a stand-out performer for Bradford in their sensational Capital One Cup run this season. The UK media reports that a “host of clubs are keeping tabs” on him, with the likes of Leeds, Huddersfield and Wolves all said to have an interest in the Bermudian striker.

Wells and Bradford City will take on Aston Villa tomorrow [Jan 22] in the second leg of the Capital One Semi Final, with kick off scheduled for 3.45pm Bermuda time.
