February 18, 2013

Bermuda’s Brazilian Football School (BBFS) partnered with HSBC Bermuda to hold the island’s 3rd HSBC-BBFS College Festival. Coaches and Scouts from The United States and England visited the island for 5 days to train youth players aged 11 – 21 on skills and techniques required when playing football at college and professional levels.

Nearly 100 pre-selected student athletes from Bermuda’s middle and senior schools were given first hand information on what is required to become a college student athlete and will learn more about topics ranging from preparing for college admissions, SAT exam requirements and applying for athletic scholarships.

Cal Blankendal, BBFS Executive Director said, “HSBC Bermuda’s generous support allowed middle and senior school players, nominated by their teachers and principals, to attend the College Festival at no charge. The students were nominated for their good academic and behavioural standing at their respective school and for being recognized as outstanding football players. In addition to their football training, the students participated in various workshops.

Neville Grant, spokesperson for HSBC Bermuda explains, “HSBC Bermuda is proud to support the education and development of our youth through sport. Bermuda’s Brazilian Football School and the College Festival offered our youth more than just an opportunity to upgrade their football skills, it encouraged them to become excellent players, on the field, in the classroom and in our community.

BBFS said they also wish to thank the XL Group and Amlin Bermuda for their support of the HSBC BBFS 3rd Annual College Prep School Festival
