Family Centre To Host Fundraiser For Children
The services provided by Family Centre to children and families with serious risk and challenges has greatly increased in recent years, and they are holding a fundraiser to help cover the costs.
A spokesperson said, “Fundraising and community support becomes paramount when it comes to ensuring that children and families receive the needed services. Last year over 400 people enjoyed an evening of local entertainment, dancing, music and great food while raising money for children.
“This year, Family Centre is inviting everyone to the 2nd Annual ‘Celebrate the Night’ on Saturday [Mar 9] at the Fourways Inn in Paget from 7.00pm to 11.00pm.
“The survival of our services is critical and isn’t something the community can take for granted. In fact, we came dangerously close to permanently shutting down some of our services last year due to funding shortages.
“Family Centre’s broad range of services is preventing children and families from falling into despair by helping with social skills through initiatives like parent education and help with homework during afterschool groups.
“Children and families that have struggled through hard times are being strengthened by our family groups, Youth and Police Initiatives, psycho-educational groups and community mobilization work. We also continue to encourage and stabilize families in crisis through counseling, case management, and therapeutic services.”
“We are breaking destructive cycles and building families and cultures that support healthy and happy childhoods. Every event we do, we want the community to understand the purpose,” says Family Centre Executive Director, Martha Dismont.
“This is our second time doing this event, and we look forward to more people enjoying an evening that promises to be loads of fun.”
The spokesperson continued saying, “This fundraiser is a mingling style affair and brings the very best of Bermuda’s entertainers together for one night.
“Guest can expect to sing along with Randy Lambert in the Peg Leg Lounge, laugh with Gina Love, Toby Butterfield of Improv Bermuda and newcomer Justin Dixon-Watts in the comedy corner, and experience the dancing styles by United Dance Productions, exciting raffles and music provided by DJ King Arthur. The MC for the evening is the wildly popular Patrina O’Connor a.k.a “PowerGirl.”
“Together we can make the difference. We are very grateful to all of our entertainers for their time and talents, and our sponsors for their support of this event and our services,” added Mrs. Dismont.
Tickets are $55 in advance and $65 at the door and can be purchased online at BDAtix or visiting Family Centre, La Trattoria, Fourways Inn, Café 4 or MEF offices.
