Police Advisory Regarding ‘Crimes of Opportunity’

February 16, 2013

The Bermuda Police Service continues to remind the public to be “vigilant regarding crimes of opportunity.”

A police spokesperson said, “In order to lessen the chances of becoming a victim, residents should: make sure all windows and doors are locked before leaving their homes unoccupied, even for short periods of time.
secure any valuables out of sight, both in vehicles and at home.

“It is also recommended that all residents photograph their possessions as well as record serial numbers and details of all personal items – in particular electronic equipment and jewelry – so that if they are stolen and later recovered, there is an accurate way of identifying them.

“Any suspicious activity around homes or vehicles should be reported at the earliest opportunity by contacting the nearest police station or calling the main police number 295-0011.”
