Dill & Hewey Sentenced: 40 Years Before Parole
[Updated with videos] Jay Dill and Devon Hewey were both sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Randy Robinson, with the Court ordering they must serve 40 years before they are eligible for parole.
22-year-old Randy Robinson was shot multiple times on March 31 2011, and pronounced dead on the scene. During the trial the Court heard that Dill was the actual shooter, while the motorcycle was being ridden by Hewey.

A talented footballer, Mr Robinson represented Bermuda internationally and was nominated for the Bermuda Football Association’s Young Player of the Year. During the trial the Court heard he was not a member of a gang.
In February 2012, Jay Dill [24] and Devon Hewey [25] were both convicted of the premeditated murder of Mr Robinson and with using a firearm to commit an indictable offence.
The Crown alleged that Dill and Hewey were part of 42, which is a rival of Parkside, while murder victim Randy Robinson was said to have cousins who were affiliated with Parkside.

In today’s sentencing, the Crown’s recommendation was that both men serve 38 – 40 years before being considered for parole, while the defense suggested 28 – 32 years.
Hewey’s lawyer Shade Subair pointed out Hewey was the ‘rider’ while Dill was the actual shooter, and suggested it would be reasonable that Dill should get a higher sentence than his accomplice.
The Victim Impact Statement from Mr Robinson’s parents described Dill and Hewey as “cold-hearted killers,” and prosecutor Garrett Byrne noted that Mr Robinson was shot “execution style.”
Update 5.16pm: On leaving the Court, where there was a large police presence, one of the defendants stuck up his middle fingers at the media as he walked down the steps. A photo of him making the gesture can be viewed by clicking here. In sentencing them, Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves made references to the gang connections and called it “domestic terrorism.”
Update 6.24pm: Police Inspector Michael Redfern speaking after the verdict. He said he hopes the verdict sends a message to those involved in gangs, and thanked the family of Mr Robinson for their patience and support throughout the investigation.

GSR on the left side of the bike stashed at or near one of their homes. The convicted shooter was left handed. Why the f@ck would there be GSR on a bike unless you either used the bike to shoot someone or you’re a f@ckin ninja and evaded being shot at point blank range and never reported the incident. God is a forgiving God no sin is greater the the other we are not to Judge God can only do that if they find it in their hearts to accept god as their savior life in Jail will be much easier for them. and when and if they do accept God he will forgive them and so should we! I do not believe we will achieve a more just society with ridiculously long sentences such as these, where there is clearly no intent of reform and education – just punishment. Indeed, if anything, such sentences perpetuate the culture of violence by removing hope and attainment from the correctional scheme. It is not by accident that countries with the lowest violent crime rates run on reform based correctional institutions – and not the barbaric American, Chinese, Iranian and other similar models. Surely 20 – 25 years would have been more fitting.

Forty years is a long time for a heterosexual male to go without female companionship. For those of you in gangs, think about this. Forty years with no girl. You still are going to have urges. Needs.
What do you think will happen? What happens in prisons in other countries where heterosexual males are locked up for extended periods without female companionship? How long do you think it will take for these guys to succumb to that on-the-inside lifestyle? Harder guys than these have succumbed to it in overseas prisons. Look at some of the Discovery channel specials on American prisons.

? Was the gun used linked to any other murders? If so a law should be passed that if a gun was used in other murders and that person was guilty of using that gun let them do a bunch of years for that.

Soooooo after reading all the lovely comments people have posted, it’s really sad how some have so much to say/type when they have not been in these situtations themselves. I personally have not seen someone get shot, killed etc. Nor do I want to experience that. God forbid I become a witness to a crime, but I’m sorry to say I would have to think and pray LONG and HARD to come forward with what I know because I honestly would be afraid to. People hear rumours of who did or didn’t commit a lot of these murders but how many of us come forward with what we hear??? At the end of the day, the jury decides the verdict whether the evidence is sufficent or not. Some may be guilty as sin and some may not be. There is a lot going on on this island that people just don’t know about and I think if they actually knew, maybe they would have a different outlook. I for one don’t have time to speculate why a person will go to jail for anothers crime but it’s sad, and the fact that this isn’t the first time it’s ‘happened’ makes it worse.

and as for Dills family and friends saying he is innocent. come forth with names evidence, facts to vindicate him? Clearly if he did not do it, he knows who did? Well, say something, proclaim your innocence on the stand? give a name, a scenerio.

Smiling on their way INTO court and smiling on the way to serve a 40 year sentence has me baffled! If one of these idiots is innocent(as some ignorant folks are saying), why would he be smiling? I know that if I knew I wasn’t guilty of this crime, and I was going to spend the next 40 years of my life locked up, I would be devastated! Maybe they were given some kind of “happy drug” on their way to court or something? Or are they really just that “simple”?

Here’s the thing sweetness. We as the public react the same way when these tragic incidents happen. You have to bear in mind that not everyone is in then with this gang bullsh!t, nor do we have time to keep up with it like many. I believe every shooter should be brought to justice. I don’t care where they’re from. I could only imagine the pain caused on ones family then these situations occur but at the end of the day, we need to stop saying stuff like, “The police only care about find parksides’ killers.” It sounds very stupid. Any parent whose child has been a victim of gun crime, whether they’re from 42nd Parkside or wherever else should be happy when killers are brought to justice. Although it may hurt that their family members killer has yet to be found, I believe seeing other cases being solved should give them a sense of hope that one day theirs too will be solved. We have to stop this nonsense! It’s too much talk about what people don’t really know is going on and all this other secret stuff. Well if you know that then speak up! It’s just that simple. There is always some truth to what’s being said in the streets. Instead of carrying it to the next person and making them promise not to say anything, take it to the police! I’m sure any little information could one day be valuable!
