BBA Names Cycling Team For Island Games
The Bermuda Bicycle Association has chosen eight athletes to represent Bermuda in the road cycling events in the 2013 NatWest Island Games this July.
With the teams restricted at a maximum of five men and three women by the IGA Cycling rules, the BBA’s selectors made their assessment and recommendation to the association’s executive committee from a field of six women and 15 men candidates.
The men’s team will be comprised of Geri Mewett, Dominique Mayho, Shannon Lawrence, Johan Vivier and Darren Glasford while the women’s team is made up of Nicole Mitchel, Karen Bordage and Earlena Ingham.
All competitors will participate in the three road race events; a road race on Sunday, July 14, a time trial on Tuesday, July 16 and the finale will be a criterium in Hamilton on the evening of Thursday, July 18.
The road team joins the previously announced mountain biking squad of five men. There will be no mountain biking events for women at the 2013 NatWest Island Games.
The Games will see 14 sports contested at 15 venues across Bermuda from 13th July until 19th July. Some 2,000 participants have registered from the 24 participating Islands including competitors, officials, and international journalists.
Congrats Guys and Gals. All the best…..
Is there a reason why there is no women’s mountain bike race in 2013? I wanted to race and qualified but was told there were no other women wanting to go. Is this true? Were there really no other women wanting to compete in the entire world of small islands? And in such a beautiful place too?
