Bermuda Win Cycling Medals In Island Games

Bermuda’s Island Games medal tally is now up to six, with the island’s cyclists combining to win two more medals during today’s [June 30] competition in Jersey.

Gabriella Arnold took the bronze medal in the road race, and her showing combined with Karen Bordage’s strong 6th place finish, resulted in Bermuda winning the silver medal in the team competition.

Bermuda Bicycle Association President Peter Dunne called it a “great boost for our team who are racing hard for all of Bermuda in a very tough competition.”

The two medals won by the cyclists brings Bermuda’s Island Games medal tally up to six, as Chris Estwanik won the gold medal in the half marathon and the silver in the 5000m, while Taahira Butterfield won gold in the 100m and Natasha Trott won silver in the 100m.

Other highlights of competition today include the Bermuda basketball team recording their third consecutive victory with a 79 – 43 win over Gotland, while the Bermuda men’s volleyball team defeated Guernsey 3-0.

The 2015 Island Games has nearly 3,000 athletes from 24 islands competing, and Bermuda is being represented in badminton, basketball, track & field, golf, shooting, volleyball, windsurfing, sailing, tennis, archery, triathlon and cycling.
