BF&M Donate $250,000 Towards New Hospital
Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust [BHCT] today announces that BF&M has made a $250,000 donation to the Why it Matters capital campaign, which is raising funds to transform King Edward VII Memorial Hospital [KEMH] into a world-class hospital facility by 2014.
John Wight, President & CEO, BF&M; and Philip Butterfield, Chairman, Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust
BHCT is leading this capital campaign with a philanthropic goal of $40 million as a payment towards the cost of the $247 million redevelopment project. The project’s overarching aim is to deliver an enhanced level of hospital care for the benefit of the whole community.
BF&M President & CEO John Wight stated: “As the leading provider of health insurance in Bermuda, BF&M is pleased to donate $250,000 to the Trust in respect of a new facility that we can all be proud of. BF&M has been fully supportive of the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust campaign to raise funds for this very worthwhile cause which will positively impact the general well-being of patients, families and staff.”
Philip Butterfield, Chairman of BHCT, said: “We thank BF&M for supporting the Why it Matters capital campaign with this generous donation. It’s so inspiring to see businesses in the community like BF&M recognise the significance of this campaign and the KEMH Redevelopment Project. As the completion date gets closer, we look forward to the positive impact the enhanced hospital facility will have on Bermuda.”
Nice to see the community pulling together for this new hospital. Thank you BF&M.
Good of you BF&M, but please stop calling it a new hospital. They have already said it a new “wing”.
BF&M is a member of Paget Health Services (The company building the “New Wing”). All that $250K is, is an investment in themselves. Cus we’re going to end up paying for it!!
It’s funny how when all this started we were ‘getting a new hospital’. Now we get: “The facility will include 90 single occupancy en suite patient rooms, a day surgery unit, ambulatory care facilities, diagnostic imaging services, a new emergency room and a new utility plant.”
You are soooo correct. How many of us have “private” on our insurance. Bermudians need to wake up. This wing is not for us. This started out to be a hospital, but there were so many things left out they had to change it to a wing.
