Diabetes Association & Argus To Host Seminar

Dr Robert Lustig 1Bermuda Diabetes Association and the Argus Group have partnered to host a free seminar entitled ‘Sugar: The Bitter Truth’ on Tuesday [June 11] at 6.30pm in the Harbourview Ballroom at The Fairmont Hamilton Princess.

The guest speaker is Dr. Robert H. Lustig, MD, who is becoming known worldwide as the authority on obesity and the underlying causes – principally that of added sugar in food and drink.

Dr. Lustig has been lecturing around the world addressed the obesity epidemic.

He is is Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and an endocrinologist at the University of California in San Francisco whose YouTube lecture on sugar has been watched more than three million times.

Dr. Lustig has been interviewed on ABC, CNN and CBS several times, as well as appearing on special televised features narrated by Alec Baldwin.

He is a former chairman of the Obesity Task Force of the Pediatric Endocrine Society. He recently authored New York Times bestseller, “Fat Chance: Beating the Odds Against Sugar, Processed Food, Obesity, and Disease.”

Debbie Jones, Board Member of Bermuda Diabetes Association, says: “We are excited to be welcoming Dr. Lustig to Bermuda following his recent tour of the U.K. His work on sugar and its links to diabetes and obesity is extremely relevant here as diabetes is very common in Bermuda and a serious threat to the quality of life for so many.

“According to recent statistics, as many as one in four Bermudians are living with or are at risk of diabetes. We thank Argus for its support in making this thought-provoking seminar happen.”
