Dickinson Wins Weekend Comet Sailing Race

May 21, 2013

Stephen Dickinson won the 2013 Flag Pole to Flag Pole comet race on Sunday [May 19] when ten boats took to the water in Hamilton Harbour.

Dickinson and his crew Pat Young battled hard from the start which was in line with the Hamilton Flag Pole eventually pulling away from the Fleet to finish and win in St. George’s Harbour.

At the start, Heath Foggo with crew Wesley Tucker in his boat made a break after Rockal Evans and his crew Christina Barnard went to the front at the start line taking the lead before they reached the RBYC dock.

Dickinson took the lead near the Spanish Point Boat Club where the field thinned out. Dickinson, Evans and Gladwin Lambert with his crew Lorenzo Lambert fought all the way down to Ferry Reach where Dickinson was able to put some distance between himself and the other two.

Evans was less than five minutes behind Dickinson entering the Town Cut Channel but struggled and Dickinson was able to sail away and claim the title, with Evans second and Lambert finished third.

Five boats did not finish the race having to be towed in. Foggo had a issue with his boat while others succumbed to the winds and weather.
