Man Denies Prostitution Procurement Charge

May 9, 2013

A 40-year-old man appeared in Magistrates Court this morning [May 9] where he denied a charge of attempting to procure a woman to become a common prostitute.

MacDonald DeSilva pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The first charge was that by means of a cellphone, he sent messages that were grossly offensive. The second was that in early 2013, he attempted to procure a woman to become a common prostitute.

Mr DeSilva was assisted by the Duty Counsel. Senior Magistrate Archie Warner set trial for August 2013 and granted Mr DeSilva bail of $2,000 and required a surety.

Are you Serious times are getting that bad where you will want to allegedly prostitute and innocent lady. I guess there are no females in your family. Surely hope no one ever does that to them.

On another note, how can people say this type of behavior is linked to gaming, then gaming is ILLEGAL right now and prostitution may be happening already. People always try to tie one thing to another when there is no correlation.

…but easy to get caught if you do it by text

  4. pebblebeach says:

@nok…been pimps and hoes in our country for years…

  5. swing voter says:

there are ‘trolls’ online soliciting as well. Beware of entrapment via some local ‘for-sale’ websites

    • riley says:

@swing voter: ‘Entrapment’? Sorry but I don’t feel sorry for anyone who gets ‘entrapped’ by responding to solicitation via the web. That is just plain disgusting. Any man (because it’s always going to be a man) who responds to something like that deserves to get caught! I don’t care how horny or hard-up (pardon the pun) a guy gets-to engage the services of a prostitute is just plain nasty!

      • swing voter says:

agreed, but when law enforcement trolls online, its pretty disgusting when they recklessly target people without consideration given to the process

  6. Nuffin but da Truth says:

there are plenty of hookers in Bermuda, female and male.
If you look it’s as clear as day n night!!!

    • Royalty says:

the whole island is shaped like a hook too….Bermuda is a wh@re!!!

  7. Vulpes says:

This could be a portent of things to come – legalize gaming and the pimps and hookers come with the package…Something to seriously consider before we undertake to change the nature of Bermuda forever.

    • Billy Mays says:

@Vulpes, what in the world are you talking about? “Legalize golf, the next thing you know, there will be mass kidnappings!”
Your connection between gaming and prostitution is completely foolish, baseless and moronic.

      • Royalty says:

lol he watched one too many mob movies…

  8. Anthony says:

    Why is prostitution illegal?

    • Ride says:

      @Anthony

This society currently considers it morally reprehensible (well, outwardly it considers its it so) and there are no lobby or special interest groups for practitioners, clients, and/or support persons to rally to in order for a voice countering this perception to be heard.

Prostitution is legal in many places with quite a few keeping pimping and/or brothels as illegal. [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_law ] It appears that it is legal in the UK.

I think it would be a massive nigh near impossible cliff face ascent to decriminalize prostitution on this island. For starters, with the size of the island and the social stigma attached to the industry who would form and head such a special interest group and publicly speak in favor of prostitution? Would existing practitioners, clients, and support persons acknowledge and work with the group?

It would be interesting to hear the pros and cons debated in the House, though. I can see it now, The Sensual Therapy Division of the Bermuda Industrial Union. LOL!!

    • riley says:

@Anthony: Maybe it’s to stop nasty diseases from being spread. As some people have no self-control, the government needs to step in to try and protect them.

I have seen some really nasty looking crack hoes out on the street and guys are STILL picking them up! I mean, they look really diseased and nasty-the type of women a decent guy wouldn’t even touch with another guy’s d**k and they get plenty of customers! I’m like, what is wrong with these guys?!

There’s all kinds of antibiotic-resistant venereal diseases out there-not to mention AIDS-and these guys still pick these meth-addict looking prostitutes up. One of these days a disease will crop up where a guy’s parts fall off as soon as he’s exposed to an infected ho and I swear guys will STILL take their chances! It must be really hard to be a man and be controlled by your hormones like that…that testosterone’s a mighty potent thing; it over-rides all common sense, it seems…

    • Whistling Frog says:

Anything the government can’t cash in on is illegal…

      • Ride says:

        @Whistling Frog

The only reason this government can’t cash in on it is because it is illegal. In places where it is decriminalized participants in the industry are expected to file taxes, pay into pensions, and everything else. Of course they get all the social services that any other tax contributing member of there society have as well; health care, pension, health and safety regulations, and so on.

        Ride

      • TBH says:

You’re ignorant. The government could cash on it if it wanted to. Prostitution is illegal because of the social/ economic instability it would undoubtedly cause.

        • Royalty says:

not like we don’t already have any of that…

  12. Fajr says:

It’s good to see punishment for actions if they have been committed! Preying on woman is a sickness. If guilty, Take this off the streets !
