May 2, 2013

[Updated with video] 441 Productions and Veterans in Action have teamed up with the City of Hamilton to produce a four-day music festival before Cup Match which will include artists such as the Kennel Boys, Soca DJ Back 2 Basics, Uzimon, New Kingston and Jamaican reggae star Beres Hammond.

Friday July 26th will see the City of Hamilton Music Festival, Saturday July 27th the Rock’n De Rock event, Sunday July 28th the Vibe 103 FM Beach BBQ, and Wednesday July 31st the One Love One Life concert.

Th events on July 26th, 27th and 31st will all be hosted at Par-La-Ville car park [venue map here – PDF], while the July 28th event will be held at Snorkel Park Beach. Par-La-Ville car park was used in 2007 to host a New Years Eve event with Collie Buddz and Shaggy.

A spokesperson said, “We have been given a rare opportunity to create a one of a kind event for Bermuda. It is our goal to bring us together as a community and highlight our diversity through the power of the arts.

“Raise money for worthy local charities with the private and public sector working together. Create positive exposure for sponsors involved and job opportunities for Bermudians. Expanding on our existing cultural icon Cup Match and provide on island entertainment for our visitors to experience our unique heritage. An event we can all truly be proud of.

“This event is designed to bring people together for a good cause. The producers have chosen two worthy charities for part proceeds to be donated to. The Bermuda Sunshine League and PALS, both charities are known for their excellent work in the community.”

Beres Hammond’s hit song “Putting Up A Resistance”

Friday July 26th will feature the best that Bermuda has to offer in a variety of musical genres. This event will provide local performers the opportunity to shine in front of a large audience on a festival size stage. There will be an audition for the City Music Festival, providing an opportunity for all genres of music to try out for their chance to be a part of this epic event.

Saturday July 27th features music from the Rock and Roll genre. Opening the evening will be Bermuda’s own the Kennel Boys, followed by Message in a Bottle with a tribute to The Police. The headliner will be Elevation, the international U2 tribute show, back to Bermuda by popular demand.

Sunday July 28th the event will head to the Snorkel Park Beach for a fun early evening BBQ. Headlining the Sunday event will be Soca DJ Back 2 Basics from Trinidad; the perfect complement to Vibe 103 DJ’s mixing all genres of music.

Wednesday July 31st is the main event, ‘One Love One Life’. Bermuda’s own Uzimon will perform. Uzi opened for Ziggy Marley in the 2010 music festival and most recently shared the stage with the stars at the Lennon Bermuda show in September 2012.

Returning for Cup Match are the young veterans, New Kingston. Known for their work with Bermudian reggae star Collie Buddz, New Kingston will bring their original style of Pop, R&B and Reggae.

Beres Hammond, the festival headliner, is one of Jamaica’s greatest living singer and a favorite reggae artist in Bermuda. “Bermuda is one of my favorite places to visit and perform”, said Beres Hammond.

Uzimon performs at the John Lennon Tribute Concert last year:

A spokesperson said, “Security and safety is vital to a successful event. We have contacted several leading local security firms and will be working closely with the Bermuda Police Service and St. John’s Ambulance to ensure a safe and festive environment at all of the events.

“In the center of Hamilton parking for the event is ample. VIP and sponsor parking will be at City Hall while general admission patrons can use # 1 car park and Bulls Head car park, with shuttle services to the venue.”
