Thomas & Bove Win Tennis Tournament
David Thomas and Erika Bove are the 2013 William Way Memorial Tennis Tournament Male and Female Champions following Finals day at the WER Joell Tennis Stadium.
Thomas faced off against Sam Butler in the Men’s Final, with the match needing three sets and drama in the third to lift the title, while Bove won the Ladies title in straight sets over Jacklyn Lambert.
Thomas had advanced to the final after defeating Jenson Bascome in straight sets 6-2, 7-6, while Butler advanced after defeating Romar Douglas in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Bove defeated Tara Lambert in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 in their Ladies Semi-Final, while Lambert defeated Caitlin Gordon in the other Semi-Final in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
Thomas won the first set 6 – 0, but Butler fought back to take the second set 6 – 2. In the first set Butler looked as if he did not have an answer, looking to his supporters in the stands for answers, but in the second set he can alive and gave Thomas more than he could chew returning and serving much better.
In the third set Butler looked ready to walk away with the title up 5 – 2, but Thomas fought back to win the next five games to win the title 7 – 5 in the third set.
Bove took to the court to take on Lambert in the final and won the first set 6 – 1, Bove then closed out the match winning the second set 6 – 2.
Thomas captured his second title of the event when he teamed up with Jacklyn Lambert and the pair defeated Jenson Bascome and Tara Lambert in the Mixed Doubles Final in straight sets 6-4, 7-5.
