TROIKA Bermuda To Make International Debut

May 26, 2013

This summer TROIKA Bermuda will be making their international performance debut at the 2013 National Black Theatre Festival [NBTF] in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Founded in 1989 with Dr. Maya Angelou serving as the Festival’s first Chairperson, the NBTF is held biennially and attracts more than 65,000 people over the six days.

Out of over 130 entries from theatre companies throughout the United States, Canada, Africa and the Caribbean; TROIKA Bermuda’s Work In Progress #3 original production entitled ‘Misunderstood’ was selected as one of the 30 main stage productions to be featured at this year’s festival.

The sold out performances of ‘Misunderstood’ were originally staged at The City Hall Theatre in 2012. ‘Misunderstood’ is a 90 minute riveting theatrical choreoplay with music, about a group of forsaken students who look for their purpose and meaning in a world that seems to only want to confine their dreams and passions.

The production was directed by Lawrence Floyd from New York City and choreographed by local choreographer, Zalika Millett. The music was directed and composed by Leroy Francis.

Over 25 TROIKA Players will be spending this summer in intense rehearsals in preparation for this international performance. While at the festival the TROIKA Players will also have the opportunity to participate in a youth talent show, workshops, network, and attend other productions being featured at the festival.

Quick look at a TROIKA performance in 2012:

Misunderstood will run for 4 performances at the festival. The dates are as follows: Wednesday July 31st at 3pm,Thursday, August 1st at 8pm, Friday, August 2nd at 8pm and Saturday, August 3rd at 3pm.
