Argo, Argus Support BCB’s Summer Clinics

June 4, 2013

The Bermuda Cricket Board [BCB] today [June 4] announced that both the Argo Foundation and Argus have agreed to support the 2013 BCB Summer Clinic.

This support allows the BCB to offer the clinic at a financially subsidised rate making it more accessible to the local community which is especially important in the current economic climate.

The main purpose of the summer clinic is to teach the skills of cricket while enriching the lives of all of Bermudas children by keeping them active over the summer months playing a sport they love.

During the clinic the participants play regular games among themselves and against other camps in the area.

The camp incorporates skill building activities and weekly excursions to Admiralty House beach and to the movies.

A representative from the Argo Foundation stated, “The Argo Foundation has been supporting youth development through cricket for the past four years we are pleased to continue that support for the BCB Summer Clinic.

“It is our aim to invest in programs and services that enrich the lives of Bermudas youth and we believe this program does exactly that by providing opportunities for players to develop their cricket skills alongside learning important life-skills. The clinic provides players with an environment that encourages and requires discipline, focus, self-confidence, communication and team-work, all of which are crucial to integrate successfully into society as a whole.”

Alison Hill, Argus Group Chief Executive Officer, said: “the island’s leading health insurance provider, at Argus we have a particular interest in supporting organisations that promote health and wellness, particularly to Bermudas youth so they can carry these important messages through to adulthood.

“The BCB Summer Clinic is a valuable community programme that provides Bermudas youth with opportunities to develop exercise habits through cricket in a safe, enjoyable, non-threatening, positive environment at an affordable rate. For that reason, it fits perfectly with our corporate giving theme of prevention engaging young people in healthy pursuits away from anti-social behaviours.”

BCB President Lloyd Fray stated, “We are extremely grateful to have the support from both the Argo Foundation and Argus this year. The BCB summer clinic is an important part of our youth development program which offers cricket coaching in the areas of skill, knowledge, understanding and the spirit of cricket.”

The clinic runs July 22 August 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with optional after-camp supervision from 3pm to 5.30pm at Berkeley Institute Gym and Nets and Western Stars Field for girls and boys age seven to 14.

The camp costs $100 per week and an additional $50 per week for the after-clinic supervision. Some excursions may incur an additional cost. A full clinic schedule will be circulated shortly.
