On June 21, 2013, the Bermuda Health Foundation will honour Bermudian Dr. Malcolm Brock, Associate Professor of Surgery and Oncology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine at their Annual Salute to Service Award Luncheon to be held on Friday, June 21, 2013 at the HarbourView Ballroom at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel at 12:30 p.m.
Dr. Brock is also an Associate Professor of Environmental Health Sciences at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. A Rhodes Scholar, Dr. Brock, received a Master’s Degree in Oriental Studies at Oxford University.
He received his undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology at Princeton University, with a minor in Japanese studies. Dr. Brock joined the faculty of Johns Hopkins in 2000 and he has been an active medical researcher and clinician since joining the faculty. He holds leadership roles in several national societies and has received multiple awards for his work.
Dr. Brock has promised to share with Bermuda his vision on the healthcare crisis facing Bermuda and the rest of the world. We are encouraging healthcare professionals and former patients of Johns Hopkins to attend the luncheon at which time Bermuda Health Foundation will also hand awards to this year’s scholarship recipients.
Bermuda Health Foundation was founded in ten years ago by brothers Philip Butterfield, Vincent Hollinsid and former Premier Dr. Ewart Brown, along with their friend, the late K. Murray Brown, for the purpose of honouring Bermudians who have provided outstanding public service. Additionally, Bermuda Health Foundation, whose mandate is to create a foundation for future generations, provides scholarships for Bermudian students aspiring to careers in the medical field.
Since its inception in 2002, the Bermuda Health Foundation has provided over thirty scholarships to Bermudians of all ages who aspire to work in the medical field. Already several scholarship recipients are employed at the King Edward Memorial VII Hospital and other medical facilities both locally and internationally.
In addition to the Annual Luncheon, Bermuda Health Foundation also raises funds at their Annual Golf Tournament which will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Belmont Hills Golf Course.
