Sailor Rescued & Yacht Abandoned Off Island

A lone sailor on board the yacht “Solid Air” was rescued on Tuesday [June 11] when the yacht lost its ability to steer after losing its keel.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations spokesperson said, “The sailor was taking part in the 19th Biennial Bermuda One-Two Yacht Race when a fellow competitor on board the yacht ‘Halcyon’ diverted to assist. The stricken yacht was abandoned approximately 210 miles off Bermuda.

“The sailor is safe on board the ‘Halcyon’ which is about 90 miles from Bermuda and is expected to arrive in St George’s sometime Thursday morning”.
