June 20, 2013

The Bermuda Department of Tourism [BDOT] is playing host to one of the world’s foremost travel experts and media personalities to help showcase the island to a targeted North American audience.

Noted author, television and radio host Peter Greenberg is on island this week to film the destination for an episode of his new show “Travel Detective” which will soon be premiering on PBS stations across America.

The 30-minute episode will be filmed partially on location in Bermuda and include a six-minute “Hidden Gems of Bermuda” video consisting of three segments on various aspects of the destination experience. The “Hidden Gems” segments will also be available on his website, PeterGreenberg.com and distributed via the high-traffic websites AARP.org and HuffingtonPost.com, YouTube and numerous social media platforms.

In addition, Greenberg will be broadcasting his popular three-hour, nationally syndicated radio show from the island along with a 40-minute local podcast to run on PeterGreenberg.com.

Among the diverse activities Greenberg will experience while on island include: an undersea helmet walk via Hartley’s Under Sea Adventures; a behind-the-scenes visit to the Masterworks Museum of Art; a traditional Bermudian codfish breakfast at Landfall restaurant; and exploring the Railway Trail by bicycle with Paradise Tours. Additional sites to be filmed include the Crystal Caves, Black Bay Beach to view stunning sea glass, and high tea served in the garden at the Bermuda Perfumery, among others.

This is Greenberg’s second visit to the island in recent years. In 2011, he produced a series of videos showcasing the “Hidden Gems of Bermuda” that the BDOT said reached more than 6.5 million potential visitors through multiple media channels.

“Having someone of Peter Greenberg’s stature and popularity in Bermuda is a tremendous opportunity for our island,” said Shawn Crockwell, Minister of Tourism Development and Transport. “Mr. Greenberg is one of North America’s most widely known and highly respected authorities on travel and his outlets reach an extremely desirable audience of North American travelers. This is a great way to showcase our distinctive offerings and we are excited to once again show him and his audience that Bermuda has ‘So Much More’ to offer as a travel destination.”

Greenberg currently acts as Travel Editor for CBS News, and appears on CBS This Morning and across many CBS broadcast platforms.
