Bermuda Optimist Worlds Team Head To Italy
There will be no “rest for the weary” as far as the the Bermuda Optimist Worlds Team is concerned. The 5 sailor team of Chase Cooper, Campbell Patton, Benn Smith, Ceci Wollmann and Mikey Wollmann will be rushing off to the airport on Thursday en route to the World Championships in Italy. This of course is just 24 hours after all five of the sailors completed of the Optinam Championship here in Bermuda.

Organised by Fraglia Vela Riva, which this year celebrates its 85th anniversary, the regatta will be sailed on beautiful Lake Garda. Almost 300 of the world’s best Optimist sailors from 59 countries will compete from the 15th – 26th July.
The opening ceremony will take place on the July 16 with the first races being held the following day. The individual fleet races will be followed by the team races on Saturday [July 20] and Sunday [July 21]. After a rest day the final races will be held on the 23rd and 24th, concluding on the July 25 with the award ceremony.
The last two days of the regatta will include a live broadcast online with commentary by Olympian Alessandra Sensini. All boats will also have GPS tracking devices so that the world can follow the racing online throughout the entire regatta.
Joining the team in Italy is National High Performance Coach Martin Jenkins, Team Leader Julie Smith and Country Rep Tim Patton. The team sponsors are Aspen Insurance and the Kitson Group of Companies.
