Shianne Smith, Arantxa King Win Silver In Mexico

Bermuda’s athletes continue to excel overseas, with the island’s track and field team winning two medals at the 2013 Central America and Caribbean [CAC] Championships in Mexico this weekend.

Shianne Smith set a new Bermuda record and claimed a silver medal in the heptathlon, and Arantxa King then picked up the island’s second medal, winning a silver medal in the long jump.

The Games are open to athletes from 38 nations and territories across the Caribbean, Central America and South America. They are being live streamed online [with commentary in Spanish] which you can view here.

These past few days have seen Bermuda’s athletes excel in multiple disciplines overseas, with our swimming team winning 14 medals at the Central American & Caribbean Amateur Swimming Championships in Costa Rica, Tyrone Smith winning the men’s long jump during a meet in Estonia, and professional footballer Jonte Smith scoring for Crawley Town in their game against Oakwood in the UK.
