Man Denies Assault, Uttering Threatening Words

July 8, 2013

Before Senior Magistrate Archie Warner in Magistrates Court this morning [July 8], Anthony Smith denied charges involving allegations including threatening words and assault.

Smith, said to be of no fixed address, pleaded not guilty to charges that he unlawfully assaulted a female; and he uttered threatening words to her by saying: “I will kill you, no judge can do anything, I am punishing you”.

He also pleaded not guilty to other charges alleging that in July 2013, he unlawfully assaulted the same female and uttered threatening words to her, saying: “You stupid b****. I will kill you, you’re so dumb.”

Mr Smith, 45, was given an October trial date and granted $2,000 bail with one surety.

They just haven’t met the “right” woman…..not all woman tolerate BS……

  3. Soldier says:

No fixed abode but can afford bail!!!!!!!! And this is a very serious alleged crime, why is he allowed bail? …… Damn, overseas criminals will have a field day living here… Come to BDA where you can rape, molest, & murder and get bail. Sometimes do NO TIME at all!!!!!!!!!! Joke system…. And when time is given its really nothing. This one/third time served bulls$it has to go…

  4. Bermuda.Reader says:

“Granted bail” does not necessarily mean “having the money to get out on bail”. And then he has to find another $2000 from someone else. Not so easy…. He’s more likely to be sitting on Remand until his trial in October.

I don’t for one moment condone any body using threatening words to another individual, especially a male threatening a women. however……….. As a Bermudian, I know that with the Bermuda culture, people may say things like that out of anger alot. I can’t say for sure if I have ever told a lady that, and I also can’t say I haven’t. But I know that if I did say it, I didnt mean it, it was most likely my stupid way of showing the individual how angry they made me.. yeah, its childish and stupid.. However…. I think cases needed to be studied individually, because it could be subject to abuse by the :victim”…

how about it a man tells his girlfriend that in the heat of the moment, and this lady, after reading these stories, know how she can make things really awful for the man because of his stupid and childish moment of insanity.

i think these cases should be studied seriously. Mental abuse is terrible and can lead to deep emotional scars, however, if someone doesnt injure someone, and never really intended to, but was just angry, should this person be considered a criminal..

i know there are 2 sides to each story, but i think its a slippery slope,, all in my very honest opinion ofcourse..

They have a low self esteem that’s all every dog will have its day . Carma believe in it.

@Impressive…perhaps Bermudians need to be more mindful these days of what they do and say. The men here for the most part are quite verbally abusive. They seem to believe that they have the right to say anything to a woman event if they don’t know her. A prime example is walking past a construction site and a worker is yelling out to a woman that he does not know and when she does not answer, he hurls insulting, abusive remarks to her!

I think Bermudian men will begin to think twice regarding their behaviour towards women and realize that it is no longer an acceptable’part’ of the Bermudian culture and that they can possibly be prosecuted and incarcerated for it. And the same should also apply to women who verbally abuse men and each other.

It’s not acceptable for anyone anymore to be a foul mouthed, loud, insulting individual and expect to get away with it!

      • Impressive says:

Point taken,, but I think you see the point I am making, and women getting words from construction workers, well i would put money on the fact that this doesnt happen in Bermuda alone..

However, like you stated, some guys are just idiots and should not insult a lady, just because she didnt respond to his remarks, but this situation that we are discussing is slightly different, and I can assure that 99percent of the people in this world have said things to people in anger that they didnt mean, unless I am living on a planet by myself, (which is possible) lol.

If I got a dollar for everytime i was polite to a lady (by holding the door open for her, saying good morning, afternoon etc) and they just give you the dirtiest look like you just asked them to sleep with them, well thats not right either.

I was having a similiar conversation recently and the topic was how rude Bermudian women can be,, its amazing, they think that cursing and just out right disrespect is a sign of strength or something, but its actually a sign of weakness.. anybody can be rude, but it takes the stronger person to hold back the anger inside.. maybe its the point you made about Bermudian men which has made the women the way they are, but Bermudian (or quite a bit of Bermudian) women are extremely rude and confrontational, and its soooo a turn off.. but yeah, point taken

        • NeedsASpankin' says:

@ Impressive, I agree with your thoughts on Bermudian women; yes some of them are quite unladylike and rude. For the most part they have lost their femininity and look and act like men. And sometimes worse than men!! LOL
I am a Bermudian woman and have difficulty finding genuine female friendships, because I am considered by some of them to be too ladylike, proper and unlike them am not a single parent or divorced or angry and bitter.

Part of the problem is that some of them have been raised in chaotic households and then chaotic people themselves. They have become bitter with their lot in life and also the lack of a having good male partner..Therefore any man that tries to be decent is looked upon as being suspicious. Even by a simple gesture of opening a door and saying ‘hello.’

I don’t know the circumstances of this case, I’m sure there is more to the story, but like I said in my earlier post, men need to more aware of what they say even in a moment of anger that could possibly be to their detriment.
