BPWA To Host Power Breakfast For Women

August 6, 2013

On Saturday, 24 August 2013, the Business and Professional Women’s Association of Bermuda [BPWA] will hold a power breakfast for women with leading psychologist Lorrie Peniston from 9:30am to 11:30am at Harley’s Restaurant at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.

The theme of the breakfast will be assertive communication skills, as attendees will have the opportunity to learn how to ask for what they want in order to gain the credibility and respect they deserve.

President of BPWA, Katie Partington, shared that “BPWA is excited to partner with Lorrie Peniston who has almost three decades of experience in the field of psychotherapy and is a leader in the field of positive psychology both in Bermuda and abroad”.

Ms. Partington continued on by sharing that “this breakfast will be the first of many events that BPWA will host over the coming months. Such events are aimed to equip our members and the local public, particularly women, with invaluable skills which will assist in professional and personal development.”

In expressing her excitement to help people learn how to have a conversation that identifies problems, expresses feelings and asks for positive change, Ms. Peniston stated that “assertiveness is a skill that can be learned, it is not a personality type. Assertiveness is the ability to exercise direct and authentic communication that addresses problems rather than attacking or blaming which in turn will build credibility and respect.”

Ms. Peniston acknowledges that difficult conversations are an inevitable part of life but believes that this talk will help women learn how to proceed with confidence, control and clarity.

Entry fee for this event is $35.00 where the cost includes a full buffet breakfast. For more information on the breakfast email: bpwabermuda@yahoo.com or call 505-7160.
