After a rough start to the new year I was hoping to get through the rest of the year with few to no more traffic fatalities. I did hear the description of what happened to cause this accident and fatality and I hope those that have young ones on cycles encourage them to ride safely and not take chances. I did see a young man today (on a V50) take a chance overtaking a van and had to nip between the van and another cyclist who had a small child on the front of that cycle.

My condolences to this young man’s family.

This is so sad. I can’t count how many times I’m on the road and I close my eyes because I swear I’m about to see an accident. Condolences to the family and I hope that the young and old people on bikes slow down and take your time! I’d rather get there late than not at all. Please where I work I see the after affects of speeding. It is not a good feeling and seeing the parents come to visits their sons is gut wrenching.

  21. Frodo says:

I remember the victim when he was a kid. After hearing all the details surrounding this, I feel so bad for the family and especially his mother. 17 years old is so young. One split second, one error in judgment and someone pays with it for their life. He didn’t set out to get in an accident…sadly we can’t wind back the clock and do things over again. Very tragic.

    • inna says:

“He didn’t set out to get in an accident..”

unfortunately a lot of young people riding bikes nowadays have no care for any one on the road, including themselves. near misses that happen every day, it is a wonder we do not see any more fatalities!

my condolences to the family of the teeanger..

  22. Frodo says:

*pays for it with their life

Wow my sons friend all was kicking ball. He will be a miss

  28. Snail says:

I reiterate–do not pass on yellow lines. No not pass on corners. Do not pass PERIOD. Slow down. These roads are to curvy and narrow for overtaking, on a bike or in a car. Will anyone learn? It is a sad day for this family. We can teach our children what is right and proper; they are going to do what they want to do. Condolences to this family on this very tragic loss.

    • Honestly says:

What about a bus? I almost died on that very same road yesterday! Driver must’ve thought he was on a scrambler. Nervous for oncoming traffic. Lord I hope I don’t have to ride the bus soon for that very reason. It was the 11:10 bus leaving St. David’s. oh and coming home wasn’t better 6:45 St. George’s bus leaving town had to hold on for dear life. So the message goes to everyone…please slow down…these accidents and deaths affect so many people who care for you! Love your life and your parents who have to suffer greatly over poor decision making!

  29. a girl he knew says:

R.I.P WHY DID IT HAVE TO SEE THIS HAPPEN INFRONT OF ME!!!

  30. Snail says:

Correction: Do not pass on corners.

  31. Tamesha Wolfe says:

My heart fell apart when I heard the news. This young man was so loved by many and a playful joker to most. I’m praying the family will be ok at this time in need. SIP lil man we will miss you but never forget you xoxoxo

    • Annie says:

Yes, his mother is like that as well-she must have passed her sense of humour down to her son. She is just devastated right now and I cannot even imagine what she is going through. The first responders had to go right past her job on the way to try and help her son. I feel really terrible for her, her children are her life. My condolences to the entire family and may he be at peace.

  50. Triangle Drifter says:

How about the truck driver? Looks like he got over to the left as far as he could go. The vision of that bike coming at him will haunt him for the rest of his life.

    • So incredibly sad says:

TD – you are too right. That driver, the innocent victim in this, will be haunted for life. I live it – different accident, same scenario. Sad on so many levels. How do we teach Bermuda’s drivers to stop being suicidal in how they approach the roads?

  51. Auntie Marg says:

I knew this boy and he will be sadly missed. He was a very special young man.

  52. Realist says:

May God comfort —-’s family at this trying time..

    Every moment, thank God.

  53. Victor says:

My condolences to the young man’s family and friends. It is frightening how in a single instant a loved one can be taken from us.

  54. Future says:

R.I.P Lil Cuz……My heart goes out to my family in these times. I to know how it feels to loose a love one and at his young age he had so much more life to live. Just know that he is in a better place and will not be forgotten. The days will get better but at present you mourn….you cry you do whatever you feel to make you feel better. God is there with you every step of the way and will help you through is. Keep him in your heart. Family you are in my prayers.

  55. Triangle Drifter says:

The hard cold facts are more than likely that this was no accident. Like so many others, it was most likely an avoidable crash caused by human error not by unavoidable mechanical failure resulting in an accident.

The carnage continues. Another young life gone. When will we learn?

    • Unjrust Realities says:

Damn!!!! At some point you should learn some compassion . . .I don’t think anyone of his friends and especially his family want to hear your ignorant rhetoric at a time like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  56. Purple says:

Apologies for being morbid, but every time (and that’s ALL the time lately) when I see people riding like poorly (with child &/or wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/husband on the front/back these days) I wonder if they ever ask themselves if where they are in such a rush to go to is worth dying for. ESPECIALLY when they turn off the road just after they’ve taken their life into their own hands….couldn’t they have waited another couple of seconds?????

Do they consider what devastation they will leave behind? Not only for their families but for those others directly involved in the incident? Is it REALLY worth it?

Come on Bermuda…this is NOT us!!

Deepest condolences to the family. May the Lord give you comfort at such a time.

  57. Pastor Syl Hayward says:

With tears in my eyes, I send condolences to this young man’s family, and a heartfelt plea to all his friends and other young (and older) ones on bikes. Please care as much about your own life as you seem to expect others on the road to do. When you overtake on blind corners or into oncoming traffic, cars, trucks, buses and even other bikes must take defensive maneuvers to avoid hitting or being hit by you. You can see from the above picture that the truck driver went as far over as possible to avoid this young man…without success. For all we know, maybe he was speeding too, and that contributed to the tragedy. One thing for sure, this accident and death will haunt him for the rest of his life.

Everybody, just slow down. Nobody will mind if you get to your funeral a little late.

  58. 13Viruous says:

My sympathy goes out to the family! May God bring them peace that surpasses all understanding!
