Janeiro Tucker Breaks Two Cup Match Records
[Updated with video] Janeiro Tucker — aka Mr Cup Match — was in impressive form today [Aug 1] claiming two notable distinctions; becoming the all time leading run scorer and the first player to score four centuries in Cup Match.
Fans erupted after the Somerset player exceeded Charlie Marshall’s total of 1,357 to become the all time leading run scorer in Cup Match history.
Charlie Marshall himself was among those who made their way onto the field to congratulate Tucker, with the legendary cricketer receiving a warm reception from fans.
The two players — who have scored some 2,700 Cup Match runs between them — are pictured on the left.
The 38-year-old cricketer then added the proverbial icing on the cake by going on to score a century, which earned Tucker his second big honour of the day, making him the first player to score four centuries in Cup Match.
Tre Manders also grabbed himself a century, as Somerset ended the first day of play with the upper hand, having declared at 370/6, while St George’s are at 76/5.
