Junior Anglers Fishing Tournament To Be Held
Bermuda Anglers Club will host the second annual Junior Fishing Tournament on Sunday, August 18 on a rain or shine basis.
The entrants will be able to start fishing at 8.30am in the morning, and the event is open to all boys and girls under the age of 16. There is a category for fishing from the shore, and age categories for kids of all ages.
The tournament is free to enter, and last year saw over 150 children enter the event.
Prize presentation in 2012:
Bermuda Anglers Club President Mark Henneberger said, “In 2012 we decided to introduce a dedicated junior tournament open to all children across the island, so in August last year we held the inaugural event. Once again we have earmarked the surplus from the ILTT to fund the junior tournament.
“We are very fortunate to have a great group of sponsors for the ILTT and this year the junior tournament has received additional support from Playmate Charters, Cable Vision Limited and Keen Limited. These organizations share our goal of getting kids involved in fishing on the island. Fishing is a great way for families to spend time together and we encourage all parents, guardians, family friends and children to get behind this important event.”
Entry forms for the junior tournament are available from Flybridge Tackle in Hamilton until 5pm Saturday, August 10 or online at the Anglers Club’s website. Entry forms have to be returned by email to bermudaanglersclub@bermuda.com or to Flybridge Tackle by 5pm Saturday, August 10.
Each child that comes to the weigh station will receive a free t-shirt. The weigh-in will be held west of the Flagpole on Front Street between 3pm and 5pm on the afternoon of Sunday, August 18.
There will be 25 prizes to win, plus a selection of spot prizes too. This year a fishing trip on Playmate – a 43 foot charter boat – is one of the events most prestigious prizes! Prize giving will be held at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club on Saturday [August 24] at 10am.
Children can enter any fish they land other than a bill fish [marlin, spearfish or sailfish], a shark and a parrot fish. Part of the goal of the tournament is help children understand and respect Bermuda’s Fisheries Regulations. When each child picks up an entry form they will also receive a ruler which shows how big certain fish must be before they can be presented at the weigh station.
