PGA Grand Slam: Harrington Replaces Mickelson

August 20, 2013

PGA grand_slam_logoThe 2012 PGA Grand Slam of Golf champion Padraig Harrington will return to Bermuda to defend his title at Port Royal Golf Course.

Harrington replaces Hall of Famer and 2013 Open Champion Phil Mickelson who is unable to compete due to “an end-of-season scheduling conflict.” Harrington has played the Grand Slam in Bermuda three times previously – in 2007, 2008 and last year.

Padraig Harrington will compete against three first-time Majors Champions Adam Scott, Justin Rose and Jason Dufner.

Meantime, tickets for the 2013 PGA Grand Slam of Golf at the Port Royal Golf Course are now available for purchase online and ticket buyers will receive two tickets for every one purchased.

Visitors to pgagrandslamofgolf.com have the first opportunity to purchase tickets for the Grand Slam while tickets go on sale at the Port Royal Pro Shop September 5, 2013.

The two-for-one special is being reintroduced after similar promotions in 2011 and 2012 were very popular among golf fans.

The PGA Grand Slam of Golf features the most difficult qualification requirement in the game – a Major Championship. When a qualifier from the current year is unavailable to participate, an invitation is extended to the previous year’s Grand Slam winner.

The PGA of America announced the elite foursome this week for its year-ending event, which takes place at Port Royal Golf Course two months from now, October 14-16. Scott (Masters), Rose (U.S. Open), Dufner (PGA Championship) and Harrington, who won the Open Championship in 2007 and 2008, as well as the PGA Championship in 2008, have all confirmed their attendance.

Tickets for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are $20 each day. A weeklong pass for all three days is $50. A purchase of any day’s ticket will result in a second ticket for that same day at no additional cost. Weeklong passes are also offered on the two-for-one promotion.

The buy one, get one free promotion is available only for tickets purchased in advance online and at advance ticket locations like Port Royal Golf Course. This special promotion will not be available for tickets bought after October 13, 2013.

Juniors age 17 and under will be allowed complimentary access to the Grand Slam with an accompanying ticketed adult. Each ticketed adult will be allowed four junior admissions to the event at no additional charge. Junior tickets can be picked up on-site from the admissions tent at the main spectator entrance on the day of admission.

The PGA Grand Slam of Golf features a $1.35 million purse, with the winner receiving $600,000, second place $300,000 third place $250,000 and fourth place $200,000.
