Police Inquiries Into “Unauthorised Powerboat”
The Bermuda Police Service is investigating a report of an “unauthorised powerboat” that took part in Sunday’s [Aug 11] Around the Island Boat race.
A police spokesperson said, “Police have received a report of an unauthorised powerboat taking part in the Round the Island powerboat race on Sunday, August 11th. Inquiries are ongoing.”
The boat in question is understood to be D48, which was listed as competing in the Stock D Class with Damon Morris and a “TBA” co-pilot.
Mr Morris was listed on the entry list on Thursday, however unofficial reports indicate that the Bermuda Powerboat Association may have deemed Mr Morris not eligible to compete due to issues with following through with requirements needed, such as having the boat scrutinized to make sure it met all the safety requirements.
The Bermuda PowerBoat Association produces a final race list which covers those entrants who are allowed to break general standards such as speed limits for the duration of the race.
