Youth Netball Team To Start Competing

The 2013 World Youth Netball Championships will get underway today [Aug 22] and run until Saturday 31st August.

The tournament is taking place in Glasgow, Scotland, and Bermuda will battle it out against 19 other countries in a bid to be crowned the best in the world at under-21 level.

The competing countries are Australia, Barbados, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, England, Fiji, Israel, Jamaica, Malta, Namibia, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Papau New Guinea, Republic of Ireland, Samoa, Scotland, Singapore, South Africa, Trinidad & Tobago and Wales.

Over 5000 schoolchildren will be attending the Championships over the ten day event, with children from as far away as Shetland and the Western Isles are making the trip to Glasgow.

Bermuda has been drawn in Pool B against New Zealand, Trinidad & Tobago, Northern Ireland and Malta. Their first game will be against New Zealand at 11.00am on August 23.

President of the Bermuda Netball Association, Mrs Tracey Sharrieff said she has “great confidence in the team and commends them on the total effort that they have given in the lead up to the tournament”
