Women’s Football: Haiti Defeats Bermuda U17
[Updated] The Bermuda U17 Women’s football team is taking on Haiti this evening [Sept 27].
Bermuda is competing in the final round of the Caribbean Football Union U17 Women’s Regional World Cup Qualifying Tournament, and was drawn in Group B alongside the Dominican Republic, Trinidad & Tobago, and Grenada. They defeated all three teams to make it through to the semi-finals, which will see them take on the hosts Haiti.
Bermuda starting lineup: Micah Pond, Taznae Fubler, Sideya Dill, K’Shaela Burch-Waldron, Nasaj Burgess, Kali Lespere, Zahra Gibbons, Deshae Darrell, Eva Frazzoni, Dazhja Greaves and Aaliyah Nolan.
There were several dignitaries on hand to greet the teams, and this is the largest crowd of the tournament.The Bermuda team was booed as they entered they field by the very partisan Haitian fans. Haiti scored the first goal to take a 1-0 lead.
Update 8.58pm: Zahra Gibbons is playing hard across. Aaliyah Nolan has been recognized at the threat and has three markers. Bermuda is being unsettled by the control and pace of the Haitians. Some good worksfrom Dazhja Greaves down the right earns a throw in deep. The resulting cross from Greaves sees Kali Lespere stroke her first attempt high.
Update 9.21pm: Aaliyah Nolan’s pace earns the Haitian center back a yellow card as she has only one option after the Bermuda Striker simply goes around her and accelerates. The resulting set piece sees Nolan fire high. The referee sends the teams to the dressing room with Haiti leading 1-0.
Update 9.52pm: Haiti takes a 2-0 lead. A defensive mistake leaves goalkeeper Micah Pond exposed and the Haitin striker makes no mistake in putting the ball away.
Update 11.30pm: Haiti won the match 4-0. Bermuda will play Puerto Rico on Sunday in the 3rd place playoff.

Yes Sherry–it happens. For may ex and current Bermudian football internationals, playing at home has rarely provided a home field advantage. Clearly not the case in Haiti.
Girls you have done Bermuda Proud good thus far. I hope you win tonight. Bermuda on Wednesday night we should have a huge celebration for them at the Airport. Come and Welcome them home.
