No Bermuda Wedding Still Leads To Romance

September 23, 2013

While missing your own wedding may not sound like the best beginning to a life together, doing just that at their own Bermudian nuptials in 1994 hasn’t stopped one couple from finding everlasting bliss, according to a report from the Dallas News.

With their 1994 wedding planned and reserved on the island, Walter Prindle and Pay Schell were set to tie the knot before an unexpected need for triple bypass heart surgery left Walter stuck at home in Dallas, Texas; as you may have guessed, his caring bride-to-be remained by his side.

While that left the couple to plan their wedding for another day, it didn’t stop the dozens of friends and family who had already booked their flights for the event from traveling to Bermuda and partying on their behalf.

Back home in Dallas, Mr. Prindle was recovering steadily, and he and Ms. Schell were married only a month after his surgery, with the Rev. Billy Doyle presiding over a ceremony held in Mr. Prindle’s living room. From there, they traveled onto Ireland with family, enjoying nearly a month long adventure that served as a replacement for the wedding trip and a honeymoon, all in one.

19 years later, their no-show Bermuda wedding hasn’t ever stopped their love from carrying on strong.

The pair came together late in life, making their story that much more fulfilling. Following his wife’s death – a death that he was having a very difficult time moving on from – Mr. Prindle was encouraged by his son to scan the local personal ads. Doing so reluctantly, one ad in particular jumped out at him almost immediately; that ad had been taken out only shortly before by Ms. Schell. After a whirlwind of dates and getting to know one another, the couple knew it was love – the rest is history.
