Video Trailers: Weekend Film Series Previews
A romantic comedy that won the Best Screenplay award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and a charming behind-the-scenes documentary about The Beatles, will screen at the Weekend Film Series, sponsored by Gosling’s, on Sunday [Sept 15].
The documentary film “Good ol’ Freda” will screen at 3pm, while Sundance winner “In a World” will screen at 5.15pm.
Good ol’ Freda tells the story of Freda Kelly, a teenager plucked from a Liverpool typing pool to become the first secretary and manager of The Beatles’ fan club. Freda was with the band for 11 years and she tells her story for the first time. The film, which has the support of the living Beatles and features original music by the band, has screened at more than 20 festivals since its world premiere at the prestigious SXSW Film Festival in April.

Romantic comedy In a World was written and directed by Lake Bell – and she also stars in the film as Carol, a struggling vocal coach who strikes it big in the cut-throat world of movie trailer voice overs only to find herself in direct competition with the industry’s reigning king – her father.
As romantic sparks begin to fly with charming sound engineer Louis – and with her budding career and sense of self on the line – Carol finds herself facing a momentous decision: whether to give in to her father’s bullying or go all out for the job as the official voice of a blockbuster, female-centred “quadrilogy” – and finally begin living life on her own terms.
Bell’s previous film roles include playing Ashton Kutcher’s boss in the romantic comedy No Strings Attached, Cameron Diaz’s best friend in the romantic comedy What Happens in Vegas, and Alec Baldwin’s wife in the romantic comedy It’s Complicated. She has also appeared on the television series The Practice and Boston Legal.

In a World features a tremendous ensemble cast, including cameos by Geena Davis, Eva Longoria and Diaz.
“With a prize at Sundance, and glowing reviews, the film is a breakthrough for a very talented writer, actor and director,” Hall said. “It is also very funny.”
The ‘Weekend Film Series’, sponsored by Gosling’s, is a joint production of Bermuda Documentary Film Festival director Duncan Hall and the BUEI.
