$40,000 Raised For Hendrickson Education Fund

October 16, 2013

gareth hendricksonA quiz night and silent auction has raised $40,000 to support the education of the three Hendrickson children, left without their father after he recently passed away at the young age of 39.

The donations are earmarked for an education fund for Warwick Academy students Malcolm, 10, and twins Nicholas and Christopher, 8, following the untimely death of their father, Gareth, on July 20, 2013.

Employees at Montpelier Re, Mrs. Hendrickson’s employer, along with MS Frontier Re and Endurance, Gareth’s past employers, joined forces to organise the fundraiser, which was held on September 23.

More than 200 people attended the quiz night at Docksiders, which featured radio personalities Sherri Simmons and Mike Bishop as quiz masters, with 35 teams of five players each taking part in the event. There was also a very popular silent auction and raffle which featured prizes donated by over 40 local vendors.

Following the event and its positive results, the fundraising committee behind the effort released this statement:

On July 20th, 2013 Bermuda lost a devoted husband, father, loving son, brother, cousin, uncle, a faithful friend and colleague in Gareth Hendrickson. He left behind his wife Patricia and three sons – Malcolm, Nicholas and Christopher. He touched so many of our lives in different ways that we asked ourselves, “how can we as a community give back to this lost son in appreciation for all his contributions and support to us”?

On Monday, September 23, 2013 a Trivia Quiz Night was held which was both educational and fun. This night would not have been possible without the generosity and commitment from you the “Community” to help make it a success. It also helps to fulfill Gareth’s long-term educational goal for his sons.

Vendors who donated included: ACT/Complete Office, AF Smith, Air Care, Alexandra Mosher Jewelry Studio, Ascots Restaurant, Bang Bang, BGA, Bolero Brasserie, Bonefish Restaurant, Burrows & Lightbourne, CCS, Designer Flowers, Digicel, Face & Body, Fourways Inn, Frameworks, Furniture Walk, Gateway Systems, Goslings, Graham Foster, Hamilton Princess, Harbourfront Restaurant, Island Cuisine, Island Shop, Kevin Johnston, Lobster Pot Restaurant, Logic, MEF Group, Newstead Belmont Hills, Pembroke Paint, People’s Pharmacy, Pierangelo Lanfranchi, RedLaser, Rosemont Guest House, Rustico Restaurant, Tangles, Taste 141, Waterlot Inn Restaurant, World Rugby Classic, Butterfield & Vallis, Chef’s Shop, Frost Bites, La Serena Spa, Thai Home Spa and Blucks.

We would like to say a special thank you to you and we assure you the result of your giving will provide a positive return on investment.

Thank you seems like such a small word when you consider the enormous effort it took to put on this event. Montpelier Re, Endurance and MS Frontier thank you for allowing your names to be used and allowing members of your staff to put in so much time and effort to make this event come to fruition. Thank you to all who participated in many ways and made this such a success, without you this would not have happened. I and my children will always cherish the memories of this night.
