October 7, 2013

A 44 year old man was today [Oct 7] remanded in custody after he admitted assaulting his girlfriend.

David Albouy pleaded guilty to unlawfully assaulting his girl friend causing her bodily harm and causing $90 damage to her cellphone.

Prosecutor Cindy Clarke told the Senior Magistrate that on 3rd October, after a drinking session, Albouy’s girlfriend had gotten into a car and Albouy had rushed out to join her. However she told him to get out and this led to a fight.

During the fight, Albouy yanked the keys out of the car and threw them away, beat his girlfriend.and poked his finger in her eye. The pair were eventually pulled apart by other men who were present.

Albouy, with his right hand in a bandage, told the Magistrate that: “More blood came from me than from her.”

The Magistrate ordered a Social Inquiry Report, set 21 November as sentencing date, and remanded Albouy into custody until then.

    This is not a young man. These domestic cases are from men of all ages. I dont know what seems to be the problem. But something needs to be done. It seems like this is a trend and yes people are going to jail. But they also need some form of counseling I feel. Lets get to the root of the problem.

    • What a joke says:

      What’s the problem you ask? Well for one we have soft Courts that give soft time and then we have a prison that better then some of the hotels for tourist in Bermuda.

  7. Beyond2 says:

    I feel that alot of our men are feeling demoralized and out of touch with realities of not being able to find work (for various reasons)and turn to alcohol. I am not excusing these behaviors, but the social ills of this country needs to be addressed, our older wiser men (when fathers are absent) need to step in and take a hold of our young men before things get out of hand, also parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, godparents, you to need to play a positive role in molding our young men and women.

  8. ABM says:

    So its all the males fault correct? I do beleive she played an integral part in this.

  9. Bermuda Girl says:

    @ABM: Oh, really? What part might that be? At what point does a man have the right to put his hands on a woman, even using alcohol as an excuse? I’ll be waiting to be enlightened.

  10. Fed Up says:

    Talking from experience…. The respect level has gone down the tubes. Especially when alcohol and drugs are factored in. But I tell people what is already in you comes out and if a man feels he has the right to put his hands on a woman then it’s in him already!!! It’s not in me to hit or strike someone….so when I feel threatened physically, I could hit back and defend myself by any means neccessary… But I did not I called the police and they handled it for me! These men are bullies and cowards. And please don’t give me that crap about it’s not always the males fault… Who has the upper hand here He does and he litterally uses it to beat the crap out of her. If she could have beat his @#$$ she would have!!!!

  11. Bermuda Girl says:

    @ABM: I thought as much.
