OBA: No Challenges To Cannonier Or Dunkley

October 8, 2013

One Bermuda Alliance Leader Craig Cannonier and Deputy Leader Michael Dunkley have not been challenged and will continue to serve in their current roles for the next four years, the OBA said today.

The OBA will hold its annual Conference, which is open to all members, at 7pm on Saturday, 19 October at the Fairmont Southampton.

A statement from the Party said, “At this event it had been expected that the membership would elect a Leader and Deputy Leader to four-year terms and the Chairman and Deputies to two-year terms.

“However, we are delighted to be able to announce that the Leader and Deputy Leader have not been challenged and will be continuing to serve in their current roles for the next four years. Congratulations to Messrs. Craig Cannonier and Michael Dunkley respectively.

“The position of Chairman has also not been contested. Thad Hollis will continue to serve for another two years, and the party offers its congratulations to him. Nominations were not received for either of the two Deputy Chairman positions– a further attempt to fill these two important offices will be held in the New Year.

Mr Hollis said, “I interpret these election results as evidence that the members of the Alliance support their leadership and wish to allow the current team to forge ahead and fully implement our vision.”

“I think they realise that we inherited a government that was in much worse shape than we expected. I think they are pleased with the progress that has been made so far, and I think they want to give our parliamentarians every chance to get on with the business of getting Bermuda back on track without complication.”

At the Conference, members of the Party will hear from the Leader and various Ministers on the work they have been doing in their portfolios, speaking to the themes, “Recovery, reform, renewal” and “On track, moving forward”. After the business of the meeting, members of the Party will have an opportunity for one-on-one discussions with the Parliamentarians.

There will also be a fund-raising event after the close of Party business, during which funds will be raised to support the Eliza DoLittle Society.

  1. haha says:

Oh whoops….guess all you OBA haters were wrong, yet again. Keep being brainwashed lmfao.

    • Chit Chat says:

Oh well that conspiracy didn’t work out for the PLP, I guess they will have to move on and think up another conspiracy. Can’t blame them for thinking the way they did after Dr B and company did what they did to Dame Jennifer Smith after the election. You all remember don’t you, the whole “we had to deceive you” bit.

    • frank says:

we all know that the premier is just window dressing the milk man is the real premier
the oba need to keep a black face out front

      • Mike Hind says:

        Here we go again…

Saying it over and over doesn’t make it true.

      • RawOnion says:

The same way Paula Cox was the window dressing. She even admitted to being a ‘just a cog’.

      • Rockfish#1and#2 says:

Has the PLP ever had a white leader? Hopefully Zane is not holding his breath!

    • Mazumbo says:

(There will be a fund-raising event after the close of Party business)that’s hard to believe de Oligarchy always had, has and will always have MONEY!!!!! LMAO

      • Mike Hind says:

Now you’re just posting things so you can use the word “Oligarchy”…

        Do better. Please.

  2. ediskrap says:

    Its a set up

  3. Common Sense says:

This simply cannot be true! We have been given numerous reassurances that Craig Cannonier would be turfed out once the OBA got into power. Is the OBA really telling us that Premier Cannonier will continue to be our Premier for 4 more years. It makes all of those propagandists from the Opposition Party look rather ill-informed – and that is putting it very mildly.

    • AwayFromHome says:

But if folk had not spoken up on their conjectures I guarantee you we would be looking at another premier about now…

      • Onion says:

Except that unlike other parties, the OBA leader is elected by the membership not some secret back-room deal… and it’s $5 and a membership form to join…

      • Mike Hind says:

        Conjectures? Or just desperate propaganda?

        You say tomato…

  4. Vote for Me says:

    Nothing new here.

Dunkley remains as Leader, Fahy as Deputy.

Waiting for Cannonier (Mr. Premier) to take the lead of the Party.

    • Hmmm says:

Like your beloved invisible Cox did.

    • terry says:

You been drinking too much chocolate milk Vote…..

      • Raymond Ray says:

terry says needs a shepherd like all lambs do. Think for yourself and your family for a change “mate” :-(

    • 4 Park Hopper says:

Even Disney World keeps Micky Mouse, I really don’t expect anything less from OBA World. The only consultant the oba forgot to employ for the mascot aka Premier was a speech therapist.

    • Sandy Bottom says:

You just hate being totally wrong, don’t you.

  5. The invisable MP says:

Will MP Nandi Outerbridge be making any appearances or speeches at this conference? I only ask because she has been invisable in St. Geo West over the past 6 months. Can any of the OBA army answer this question. Or why she has been invisable?

    • terry says:

Keep your mouth shut and wear your ankle bracelet

    • webster says:

Nandi Outebrige, was the worst choice the OBA COULD HAVE CHOSEN !!!!
she has some issues…….OBA GET RID OF HER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Mike Hind says:

        How, exactly?
You’re speaking about an elected official.

      • Don’t disrespect this young lady. She not only won her seat but the Government for the OBA when she unseated the sitting Parliamentarian (Kim Swan)and also beat out the approved PLP candidate Mrs. Renee Ming. And keep in mind this was a seat the OBA did no think they could win.

        • Question says:

          Fact Check:

Nandi Davis (Outerbridge) did not do anything to win that seat in St. George’s – - she didn’t even canvass. There was a group of white UBP members who went around the area and encouraged all anti-PLP supporters to support the OBA candidate – THEY NEVER EVEN MENTIONED HER NAME.

          FACT:

The day of the election several of those “supporters” went to the poll to vote, spoke to both Kim Swan and Renee Ming – BUT WALKED RIGHT PAST NANDI, AS THEY DID NOT KNOW WHO SHE WAS.

But she is their representative? Please – really?

Nandi Davis (Outerbridge) is over her head and out of her depth in the political arena – - but this is the same party that is allowing a novice to run the country as Premier, so why should I expect anything else?

          Q

          • Mike Hind says:

            Fact:

She still won and is an elected official.

I know you hate that your side lost, but they did. It’s over.
            Time to move on.

            • Question says:

              Wow:

It took you 3 days after I posted this. . . I must be special that you took time to come back and read this after all that time?!?

My post has nothing to do with “my side” losing – as I don’t have a political party or affiliation – - which begs the question -

If you are saying that “my side lost”, does that mean you are finally confirming that “your side” won, hence you are a supporter of the OBA?

              Just a question, Hind.

              Q

  6. Alvin Williams says:

The anti-Bermudian one term OBA government would not dare change their black leader; trap as they are in their herd mentality .
They accuse the PLP of playing the so-called race card; but they invented the term and ever since the days of the now defunct UBP they have been playing it to the hilt. One thing is for sure as long as the herd mentality prevails no white politician can ever aspire to the leadership
position of that party no matter how incompetent a black leader is perceive to be.

    • Sandy Bottom says:

Could a white person ever aspire to take over the leadership of the PLP from an incompetent leader then, Alvin?

      • Um Um Like says:

        Spoiler alert! Sorry Zane!

      • Robert says:

The PLP is a has been party forget them. The leader of the oba is a circus clown. I want the Ring Leader in charge it offends me to think that because of party politricks we can’t place a competent person in athority that be black or white. Get over playing the race card people and place a strong leader next time.

    • Come Correct says:

How are they anti-Bermudian? The plp claimed to be for Bermudians but screwed every last one of us….the facts just don’t make sense with what you are saying. Are you just typing propaganda or are you seriously delusional? Before I get labeled an obaer (lol wtf is that) I think the premier is a glorified sock puppet too, I’d prefer Bob Richards any day. The most Graig. has done is make a few pre written emotional speeches, plenty of photo ops and taken trips that he speaks about as often as he speaks on major issues….never.

      • Marcus says:

@ Come Correct let me buy you a drink. I prefer Dunkley but now Bermuda is in a nose dive for sure with this man at the controls. SOS please.

        • Mike Hind says:

How? How are we in a nose-dive? How are we worse off now?

        • Come Correct says:

Na we’re ok for now, he may appear to be at the controls you just can’t see the strings, its part of the act. I like Craig, he’s a good guy, I just wish he would get rid of the consultants and lead from the heart. If he can’t, the best thing.he can do for Bermuda is step aside and allow someone who can. I don’t want a miracle, just a good solid leader. When our “leader” is silent most of the time, it doesn’t give the impression that he can lead. Right now I see two different hands holding Craigs to guide him and one up his a** operating the mouth. I know we should respect the position but respect is earned and I refuse to blindly follow. The oba can do better than what they currently have and I’m not talking about the premier. The AG needs to declare his conflict of interest and Nandi should step aside.

          • WHAT!!! says:

And the GOLD MEDAL AWARD goes to….COME CORRECT for keeping it real.

          • swing voter says:

I like yur commentary. But Craig is a novice/freshman. you can’t expect a guy that likes airplane magazines to take the controls on a 747 Jumbo because the captain had a heart-attack in-flight

    • Mike Hind says:

I note you don’t deny that they use the race card… interesting.

    • My Kind says:

ALVIN: Race based politics is so last decade. Note: the PLP lost the election on Dec 17th 2012. Get over it!

The politics of today depends on something more than just blaming everything on race. It worked for you guys for a while – until you completely ruined Bermuda – then not so much.

Enjoy living in the past sir.

Sounds like a song for this weekend:

Bye bye PLP and their lies
Drove my SUV to KFC got chicken and fries
Chris & LV and the rest of those byes sang
      PLP officially died
      PLP officially died…..

    • Yeah, and your party had four black leaders while in power and look where we are. You are not a member of the OBA so what business is it of yours who there leader is whether black or white?

  7. @ Alvin Williams I thought the 80′s and 90′s where over? What is the year to date? Um the same for the PLP never no white leader its against political lines when it comes to the PLP! right? BTW Just as much as the UBP was racist the PLP was 2! Just wrap ya BIG head around it! I Hate racially motivated people like u! FREE your mind from mental slavery none but ourselves can free our minds! Bob Marley maybe u should listen 2 him from time to time!

  8. somuchless says:

And the comedy show continues lol

  9. OBA supporter says:

This new party is showing maturity. It realizes that Bermuda was headed in the wrong direction and needs continuity to make things better. No “we had to deceive you”, just good ole honesty and transparency.
Premier Cannonier, rally your team and continue on doing what is right for the people of Bermuda. We remember the self servers, and do not want to go back!

  10. Norris Alvin Williams says:

You will see a white leader of the PLP a long time before you will see a
white leader of the OBA. In order to keep up appearance before the black
community; you have to force any potenial white leader in your party to
    disavow any leadership aspirations.
Ask Michael Dunkley;but than that is the price you will have to pay since it’s your game; this question of the use of the so-called race card.

    • Mike Hind says:

This is just regurgitated propaganda. It’s opinion expressed as fact and is, for the most part, quantifiably false.
Such a shame. We deserve better than this.

  11. Norris Alvin Williams says:

Allways using that Bob Marley song; what do you think he was singing about? Who has the nuclear weapons; who would destroy all mankind just to save his own.
They quote Martin Luther King’ they quote Nelson Mandela; but not the full contexts of the struggle; the struggle against provety against racism; the full context of the fight against colonialism; the sacrifice
to bring forth real democracy in America and right here in Bermuda; Although what this anti-Bermudian one term OBA government would do with
respect to so-called reforms to the city government and the attempt to weaken Bermuda’s PTAs ; It seems to me that this is an attempt to bring back the old order unless the people of Bermuda stop them.

    • Mike Hind says:

saying “one term anti-Bermudian” over and over and over isn’t going to make it any more true.

I’m just curious. Why – other than partisan wishful thinking – are they going to be one-term? and how are the anti-Bermudian?

      • swing voter says:

Hey Williams, stop tellin us how much you hate your life and start living again!

  12. Truth is killin' me... says:

As long as a good man is doing good for Bermuda…he will stay in charge!

    • WHAT!!! says:

My male dog will breed with a chicken before we see him doing good for Bermuda. I’m starting to think the powers that be gave him a spiffy office, suit & tie and directed him not to speak unless told what to say.

      • Mike Hind says:

Any evidence of this? Or is it just more regurgitated smear?

  13. My Kind says:

Bye bye PLP and their lies
Drove my SUV to KFC got chicken and fries
Chris & LV and the rest of those byes sang
    PLP officially died
    PLP officially died…..

    • swing voter says:

now that’s funnieeeeee…..u mus b featured in the ‘not the um um’

  14. Raymond Ray says:

Will those of you who’re diehard Progressive Labour Party supporters stop talking crap and get up with the Govt. and assist in combating many,(if not all) of the “ills” we are confronting daily? There are Laws needing to be changed and we all need to take part in seeing them changed if we’re to curb the violence etc. that has become rampant.

  15. Realist says:

    Norris Alvin Williams.
People will vote OBA in the next election,as we remember what the PLP were about !

  16. Johnny says:

Mike hind – looks like no one wants to party with you., I think you have been found out. People are tired of your usual comeback – ” any evidence”, yet you rarely offer anything of merit and are always bashing someone else’s comment. Then you act like you are not for the oba, when you are their #1 troll. Before you ask, the evidence is that you have never once on Bernews supported anything from the PLP, and although you might disagree with about 2% of what the OBA is doing, your comments are very mild and you will not single out any 1 person and bash them like you have the PLP.

    • Mike Hind says:

And here you are, bashing me for asking for evidence after denouncing me for exactly what you’re doing.
      Says a lot.

    • Mike Hind says:

Sorry for the double post, but I have to respond to this.

First off, you DO realize that you are bashing me for asking people to back up their statements, right? You’re saying that asking for integrity is a bad thing. You get that, right? Simply because I ask this predominantly of PLP supporters… Why do you think that is?

Secondly, I’m not only not for the OBA, I’m not a troll. Look up what that word means.

Thirdly, your claims (presented as evidence) are false, made-up fantasies you’ve fabricated to denounce me for daring to question people’s baseless claims. “Never once… supported anything from the PLP”? Nonsense. That’s a lie.
“…you will not single out any 1 person and bash them like you have the PLP.” Nonsense. Another lie.

You made this claim twice. When did I do this?

I get that you don’t like that I call people out for making claims against the Government. I get that you’re a PLP supporter.
That doesn’t mean that a) I am an OBA supporter and b) I’m bashing people.

You say “No one wants to party with you”. By this I can only assume you mean “No one will respond and back up their claims.”

How does that reflect badly on me and not on then?

This is just yet another ad hominem, attacking the person, not what they said.

If the truth is so bad, why do you have to resort to lies to make your point?

      • Johnny says:

        LMAO!!!

      • Johnny says:

Sounds like you are talking bout the OBA mate, they are full of lies.

        • Mike Hind says:

          Wow. THIS is your response?
You make all these accusations and, when I reply, your response is “The OBA is full of lies”?

Come on. Your a joke, if this is what you think is a valid response.
You’ve just proved that you’re not only a pathetic partisan hack but also a liar, saying anything to denounce someone who doesn’t toe your party’s line.

If you’re going to come at me and accuse me of things, at least have the courage to stand by what you say.
Otherwise, you’re just another coward taking dishonest potshots at people from behind a pen name.

  17. swing voter says:

No time for internal squabbles and front street egos….gotta love the attitude of the 40 thieves offspring….OBA is not your fathers UBP!

  18. Bermyman says:

It’s done people, get over it. We won’t have an EB scenario within the OBA this term. It is funny because this idea that Craig is somehow a surrogate because now he is in for 4 years as leader of not only the OBA but the nation. Everyone including the supposed string pullers within his own party must answer to him. He is the most powerful person on the Island. I am not saying he will deport people or smuggle former suspected terrorists into the Island, but the whole idea that just because he is not white or that he has a press secretary makes him somehow unable to be the ‘real’ Premier is bogus. On the other hand, all of those who harp on about strong leader this and that who does and say’s everything he wants. Last time we had someone autocratically running the show we plunged into the world of deep debt, playboy mansion parties and corruption. Do we really wish for another dictator? Or do we want a team of people working for us who combines it’s intellectual capital when making decisions of national importance?

  19. Dennis Williams says:

oba bloggers have no creditability at all…and that’s why Bermuda will be going no where any time soon…the very same things you complained about with the PLP you are now doing…you use the arguement that the PLP did this and the PLP did that…but excuse me that’s why they are out…What is the OBA now doing???….you don’t hold your party accountable for their errors instead you are just cheerleaders for whatever it is they do…..take off your blinders…and admit that Craig is not the best person within your own party let alone Bermuda to be leading….He and several others are surrogates…and your government members which were elected by the people don’t govern but have outscourced it…IE SAGE and Tourism Authority…maybe the people on those boards should be the goverment but wait they probably couldn’t get elected on their own merit hence the need for surrogates….. have you seen anything from most of the elected OBA MP’s??? What are they there for????

    • Mike Hind says:

I’m sure OBA bloggers will admit it when… you know… they’re shown evidence and proof and not just baseless allegations, propaganda, hypocrisy and lies.

Any chance of you providing that?

Or do you have no “creditability” [sic] either?

    • Verbal Kint says:

And the PLP apologists have all the credibility because you would rather write 12 pages of b######t, instead of just admitting you were out of line when you said the OBA would kick out the Premier. Right. More meaningless spin from the PLP faithful. Keep dealing it, while your remaining credibility slips away. What a waste.

  20. Verbal Kint says:

Why would the PLP burn up all its political capital by crying wolf at every insignificant thing (like garbage not getting picked up, or bashing the Premier, for instance), and then go quiet about the very genuine concerns with the Tourism Authority and the mess in the Municipalities? I do not get it.

  21. Ship captain says:

The OBA is taking care of the people.
The PLP took care of themselves, see the difference!

  22. Norris Alvin Williams says:

I don’t have to say anything; I can just stand by and watch; the anti-Bermudian one term OBA government will do it it all. Their anti-Bermudian policies pro-foreigner slant will see Bermudians run to the polls next time to confine this government to the dust bin of History.
This talk about partisan politics is the talk of -politicians. I look deeply into this society and I see the contraction. When the former PLP government attempted to make the very same reforms that this government has push through with respect to city government; the hills were full of
protest from OBA supporters. Today they are silent. That shows me that we have nothing in common. This is a struggle for the future of my grandchildren and since they are children; it is our responsibity to fight on thier behalf and therefore it is a struggle to the end.

  23. somuchless says:

    WHO IS THE SMARTEST

A plane was about to crash and there were only 4 parachutes. Meanwhile there were 5 people on board..

The 1st person was Usain Bolt and he said: “You know I’m the world’s fastest runner, so I can’t die now” he took 1 parachute and left..

The 2nd who was Sir John Swan said: “You know I’m one the richest men in Bermuda and have a lot going on. I’m not ready to die” so, he took the 2nd parachute and left..

The Premier Craig Cannonier said: “You know I’m the smartest and most important man in Bermuda and maybe the world, so I can’t die now” he took 1 and left..

It was left with Marc Bean and a little schoolgirl.

Mr.Bean said to her: “Take the last one, I will sacrifice my life for you..”

The little girl replied: “But there are two parachutes left, Craig took my school bag
