32 Yr Old Man Admits Hitting Pregnant Girlfriend

November 4, 2013

Appearing in Magistrates Court today [Nov 4], a 32- year-old man admitted threatening and hitting his pregnant girlfriend, and was jailed for six months after Senior Magistrate Archie Warner revoked his probation.

Damany Burchall’s guilty plea stemmed from an altercation between himself and his pregnant girlfriend on Mullet Bay Road in St George’s on 31st October 2013.

He admitted slapping her and telling her: “Don’t play with me. I’m going to hurt you” and “I’m going to punch you in front of all these people. I don’t care.”

Crown Prosecutor Susan Mulligan said the girlfriend/victim was  in Court today and had asked that the case against Burchall should be dropped.

Ms Mulligan said the Crown had several independent witnesses and would be proceeding regardless.

The Court heard that the recent altercation seemed to stem from the fact that Burchall’s girlfriend was in the process of “throwing him out” of their residence.

Asked to explain his actions, Burchall said, “She was being disrespectful to me.”

The Senior Magistrate revoked Burchall’s probation, jailed him for 6 months and ordered pre-sentencing reports, and set his sentencing date for 8th January 2014.

If you hit once you’ll hit AGAIN!! Let his a** do time! You don’t go around hitting women or anybody for that matter…and she need NOT feel sorry for him! ANGER MANAGEMENT ENROLLMENT…that’s what he needs!

They should post this guys photo all over the papers and Internet. People need to see who this coward of a man is so they know, who to look out for. What a coward!!!!

  5. Kathy S. says:

Sad, she wants to drop the charges and she’s pregnant. I hope she has better judgement when raising the baby. Sad! Help me to understand!

    • Whistling Frog says:

This and every other case like this, is a sign of not knowing who you’re getting involved with from the get go… Women seem to be so desperate in being wooed by a mans looks, words, money or his processions and don’t seem too interested at all by a man’s character. If a man or woman really wants to see what a person is like, date for six months to a year. Get to know their surrounding, friends and family. See how they interact with their father, mother, sister, brother, friends and others. Get a good feel of the persons surrounds. If its not what you expected, it that much easier to move on without any of the headaches of being in a relationship.

Sigh, dude if you thought she was being disrespectful do you think that roughing her up was going to change things? Domestic violence is not a way to garner respect from anyone.

  7. X man says:

Sounds like he was truly trying to spend Christmas in Prison.
Sick stuff —-has Bermuda’s people gone to the dogs because if you have kept up with the news in recent years
you will find that violent activity seems to be so common.
So many questions but no answers.

  8. Hudson says:

  11. The View. says:

The sad fact is many females go for the ‘Bad Boy’ image. They love to be seen as and called his B***h until they wake up to find that they are getting the treatment some dogs receive.

  12. Kindley says:

The problem here is PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND. What is the matter with the young girls of today. Girlfriends don’t need to be pregnant.

  13. Kindley says:

And of course, he had no right hitting her. If he did it once, he will do it again & again.
