Football: National Academy Trials Update

The Bermuda Football Association National Academy program recently conducted trials for the 2002 boys and U14 girls intakes for 2013. Over 50 boys and girls attended each of the sessions where they were evaluated by the NA staff coaches.

“We are pleased with the response of the players who attended the National Academy trials. There is enthusiasm and a sense of national pride developing with regards to players wanting to be a part of the National Academy program,” said National Academy Director, Richard Todd.

“The intake groups are very important as they allow us to begin the process of developing the foundation of the National Academy program and National teams for the future.

“The talent level exhibited continues to hold promise in the rise of both boys and girls Bermuda, and the National Academy staff is excited to begin working in earnest the players.” said National Academy Director, Richard Todd

Following the trials the NA director is pleased to announced that the NA staff have identified players for invitation into the NA program for 2013-2014.

U14 Girls

An informational meeting was held with the players and parents of the U14 girls who participated in the National Academy school break camp during October 28-November 1. The players commenced training on Tuesday November 12, 2013 with 42 players attending the session at BFA field under the direction of the women’s national coach Naquita Robinson.

This group will continue to train on Tuesday’s from 5:30-7:00 PM at the BFA field in prospect. Any parent whose child participated in the NA camp, but were unable to attend the meeting are asked to contact the NA Director at rtodd@bermudafootball.com .

2002 Boys

There were 3 evaluation sessions held for the 2002 boys intake group of the National Academy program. Club coaches and technical directors were asked to identify potential players for consideration of an invitation to join the NA program. 65 players were assessed and evaluated by the NA staff coaches as they participated in technical skills sessions and small sided games.

Email correspondence will be sent to the contact information provided on the registration forms to notify the parents the players who will offered an invitation to the program. Correspondence will begin to be sent today, Friday November 15, 2013. All players who attended and provided valid contact information will be contacted to notify of the results.

There will be a meeting on Wednesday November 20, 2013 @ Cedarbridge Academy cafeteria starting at 6:45 pm for players and/or parents of the 2002s invited to join the NA program.

Training will begin on Friday November 22, 2013 from 5:30-7:00 PM @ BFA field in Prospect. Any parent whose child participated in the NA2002 boys assessments, but do not receive an email notification by Monday November 18, 2013 can contact the NA Director at rtodd@bermudafootball.com .

Continued Assessment and Invitation to the National Academy Program

A spokesperson said, “This is the initial round of invitations to the NA program for the 2002 boys and U14 Girls. NA staff coaches will continue to scout youth football matches to identify talented players for inclusion.

“Club coaches and technical directors can continue to make recommendations to the NA Director of players in any age group that they would like to be observed during youth league matches for consideration of trials and possible inclusion in the NA program.”
