Milai Perott On Facing Guadeloupe
Milai Perott is aiming to make the most of his opportunity with the Bermuda national football team as they prepare to get their Concacaf Nations League campaign underway against Guadeloupe tomorrow [September 25].
Perott, who has won three caps, is one of three goalkeepers in head coach John Barry Nusum’s squad for the trip to St Lucia, along with Jahquil Hill and Coleridge Fubler.
The match will be Nusum’s first competitive game since succeeding Canadian Michael Findlay, with Bermuda targeting promotion to League A and qualification for the Gold Cup after being drawn alongside Guadeloupe, Saint Lucia and Barbados in group B, League B.
“The mood is very positive – the team has been training well the past few days,” Perott told Bernews.
“We know Guadeloupe will be a good team, but we’ve mainly been focusing on ourselves.”
The 22-year-old said representing Bermuda has fulfilled a long-standing ambition.
“It’s always been a goal of mine to wear the Bermuda No 1 jersey and have the opportunity to play,” he said.
“It’s been surreal. Hopefully I’ll have another chance and play well.”
Perott also highlighted the value of having experienced Luton Town forward Nahki Wells in the squad.
“It’s massive having guys like Nahki available – he brings so much experience,” he said.
“He really helps the younger players adapt to this level.”
Bermuda will play their first two matches in this window in Saint Lucia before travelling to Barbados to face the home side twice on October 2 and 5.
The four League B group winners will gain promotion and advance to the Gold Cup, while the two best runners-up will enter the Gold Cup preliminary round.
“The goal is to win the group and get promoted and reach the Gold Cup,” he added.
Perott is also looking to build momentum through regular club football at English non-league side Corby Town.
“Playing every week is all I’ve ever wanted,” he added. “We’ve had some ups and downs this season, but I’m happy to be playing.
“Hopefully I can have a good season and move forward.”
