22 Year Old Man Charged With Assaulting Police

A 22 year old man is set to spend his Christmas behind bars after being remanded in custody by Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo today [Dec 24].

Kevin Simmons pleaded not guilty to uttering threatening words on 21st December 2013.

He also pleaded not guilty to using offensive words to police; violently resisting arrest; and two counts of assaulting police officers. These four counts arose out of an incident with police on 23rd December 2013.

The Court that yesterday a bus driver called police to deal with an unruly passenger. Police entered the bus in order to extract the unruly passenger who put up a fight, resulting in the Police using pepper spray.

After that, it was alleged that Simmons – who is alleged to have been the unruly passenger – kicked and struck at Police officers who were in the car that transported them to Hamilton Police Station.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo remanded Simmons into custody until a Mention hearing on 30th December.
