Bradford City Boss Talks Nahki Wells Contract

December 17, 2013

Bradford City FC boss Phil Parkinson has issued another public plea to Bermudian football phenom Nahki Wells, urging the star to stay with his club even as the transfer window – and what will likely prove to be big contract offers for the young man – looms.

Wells continued his tear over the weekend with a formidable free-kick against rival Leyton Orient, bringing his goal total for the year to 15.

The report in The Telegraph and Argus says, “City remain keen to offer Wells a lucrative extension to his contract, which has 18 months to run, but have not been able to pin him down for talks.

“A host of clubs have been linked with the Bermuda ace but Parkinson hopes the Valley Parade hierarchy will rebuff any bids – unless they are too big to refuse.

“I’ve said all along that I want to keep our best players at the club,” said the City chief. “I want to do that and improve on what we’ve got because we’re in a tough division.

“It’s very, very competitive and ideally I don’t want to weaken what we’ve got. My hope is that there’s not a level of offer for him which the board will accept and we can keep him.

“I’m also realistic. If there is an offer that is so good for him and the club we might have to look elsewhere but my thoughts are that, fingers crossed, we can keep him.”
