New Book On Bermudian Folk Remedies
The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs recently held a book launch and reception for “Bermudian Folk Remedies-Using Medical Botanicals for Common Ailments” by newly published author Dr. Kuni Frith-Black.
Dr. Frith-Black’s 123-page book offers a wealth of information on local plants and their medicinal uses.
The book incorporates Dr. Frith-Black’s academic background on herbal healing and features remedies and treatment using Bermuda’s plants and herbs. It also features stories about herbal remedies by Bermudian elders and natural skin and hair care treatments.

The Minister of Community, Culture and Sports Wayne Scott said in his opening remarks, “As we know, folk remedies have always been part of the Bermudian culture. These remedies have been passed on from generation to generation.
“I am sure most of us can remember at least one remedy that our grandparents or even great-grandparent used to treat all sorts of aliments and illness. This book gives a glimpse into our Bermudian past, painting a portrait of one of our island home’s unique tradition – folk medicine.”
