Premier: ‘I’m Being Polite Here, I Can Say A Lot’

December 20, 2013

Speaking in the House of Assembly last Friday, Premier Craig Cannonier said “as the Premier of the country, I’m privileged to a whole lot and could say a lot about many things that are going on and have gone on.”

The Premier was the last speaker of the night, following after a long session which saw a spirited debate on topics including the law to allow Sunday liquor sales, the SAGE Report, and the decision to bypass the gambling referendum.

In what marked the final words in the House of Assembly for the year, the Premier said: “I’m being very polite here. I can say a lot. That’s all right. I could say a lot.”

Someone — who is not clear — could be heard in the background saying, “Go ahead say it, say it.”

Premier Cannonier continued, “There’s no need to. So, in the vein of moving forward, I recognise that there are people who are looking for us to relieve pain very quickly.

“In clear consciousness, I recognise that the value of almost half a million dollars in a referendum could be further used and better used to helping the people of Bermuda at this time.”

Audio excerpt of the Premier’s speech:

The Premier continued, “So as we move forward, Mr. Speaker, and I take no issue with the fact that some want to chuckle, but I also recognize as many in this House that do chuckle, who I could speak about doing some pretty crass things.”

“So, while I’m attempting to have a balance here, I would ward off any foolishness because I could say a lot.

“Because as the Premier of the country, I’m privileged to a whole lot and could say a lot about many things that are going on and have gone on.

“But yes, you’re right. We let it go because this is going to be a new Bermuda in 2014. We’re going to get things done. Yeah, we are.

“We’re going to get things done. A lot has been done over the past year and a lot more is going to get done.

“I’m sure the heat will be turned up, but one of the things about progress and change and information is this. Those of us who have kids, many times, have had to change our minds in direction of things because circumstances have changed.

“No one’s gotten any one brother, but if you want to be gotten and I could let it happen for sure. For sure, for sure. That’s all right. That’s all right.

“As I said before, the Premier of this country, I’m privy to a lot. So, just hold it, okay.” added Premier Cannonier.

When asked to expand or clarify his remarks, the Premier’s office said he has no further comment.

  1. Triangle Drifter says:

That sounds like a very polite & diplomatic “defy me at your peril” remark. Hmmmmm, where & from whom did we hear the unfiltered classless crude version of it?

As they say, what goes around comes around.

    • seriously says:

      So it seems!

    • Take it a step further and just think how some of our counter parts is seeing the true blackness come out of the man, and this could hold dangerous for his future.Looks like the Premier maybe is about to blow his stack and he is trying hard to hold back on precious information he is privy to like maybe the further exploitation’s of working class Bermudians.

If you byes across de floor keep getting me vex, um gonna show you dis bye fom down dere in st dabit’s is gonna give you a piece of my mind an tell you byes vat ve byes in the slow B A is really up to, ya lucky is critmas time an ve byes are fom de ole scool an don’t be leave in attacks roun holy holla days.

Hey Tri Dri…sorry for jumping the line, i just couldn’t stomach the ridiculously insane commentary below….thanks

    • norf says:

I sense a very frustrated Premier who keeps seeing political power holding back progress in Bermuda, both from within his party and from the PLP who still think that things should be done “their way” . Keep making the tough decisions Mr. Cannonier. Bermuda needs strong, bold leadership now. Bermuda needs leaders who will do the right thing, even if it is not popular.

  2. WTF says:

OK, I’m now convinced that the Premier of this country is Crazy. I need to start the ABC Party – Anybody But Craig.

Is he saying that he’s going to take confidential information and use it against people? WTF is that about?

    • LOL (original TM*) says:

Sounds to me like maybe the opposition has something to hide and the Premier knows it. So to the guy who wants to start a new party Bermuda is to small for another organization full of secrets.

LOL open up to all Bermuda no CC or hidden caucus meetings no Sunday groups televise all meetings with CITV let the people see who are politicians really are.

      • LOL (original TM*) says:

how can you dislike opening up everything to the public looks like the dislikes like the “status quo”

        LOL

      • JustAskin2 says:

I’m not sure he’s talking about the Opposition. ;)

    • Sandy Bottom says:

What “confidential” information? Oh, the phone call from Bean that he can’t now deny?

  3. TGB says:

“No one’s gotten any one brother, but if you want to be gotten and I could let it happen for sure. For sure, for sure.”

Sounds like a threat to me! This guy needs some mental help. How on earth did he get this job?

    • O'Brien says:

I have similar thoughts when I hear Marc Bean talk about Harry Potter and demons, but there we are…

      • K-Dot says:

Why do OBA’s persistent internet activist always try to deflect any criticism leveled against their party, its pathetic.

        • jt says:

          That’s precious.

        • Triangle Drifter says:

Why do PLP supporters have such short memories? Why do they want 1998 to 2012 wiped off the history books or somehow be rewritten?

Much unethical but not illegal activity went on. Much money is alleged to have gone missing under the PLP. The OBA & its supporters wants to know where it went & by who.

Looks like maybe they are finding out some dirty little secrets.

          • Rayki Emery says:

1997 Bermuda Public Schools changed from a the system that worked and implemented the failing American system that continues to fail us now.

Lets talk about all of the negative things that the UBP/OBA has done to Bermuda in its original term of power which lasted three times as long as the PLP’s 14 year reign.

All of these OBA jocks are blind to fact. I admit that things were done during the PLP administration that may have been un-ethical. However, nothing compares to the for lack of a better phrase SICK SHIT that the UBP/OBA did. Did the PLP call in anyones mortgage? Thought Not.

Get the puppet out, Get the Bean in. Simple.

            • Sandy Bottom says:

Why? What good would it do? Jennifer Smith was part of the group that changed the education system in1997. And the PLP got into power a year later, and did nothing abput it. They left the education system totally unchanged for the whole 14 years they were the government. And during that time they spent billions and billions of dollars, so let’s not pretend finance was an issue. The PLP could have done anything they wanted with education, but they didn’t, So what makes you think Bean would do anything?

By the way. Has the OBA “called in anyone’s mortgage”? No. Thought not.

        • Mike Hind says:

Shouldn’t that be: “why do our political parties’ persistent internet activists…”?

‘Cuz if you can’t see that it’s not one-sided, then you’re part of the problem.

        • Sandy Bottom says:

I guess you haven’t seen Betty then.

    • Hey I have to reply to you because truthfully when the premier made that comment, so much can be read into it and the sad thing is if he is ask to really clarify the statement he made, some joker will write the lyrics for him to say and to save face if they don’t write it and want to make him look like his response comes from the heart,it would go something like this.

A urgent meeting will be call only with the high up’s within the party, for those of you that is a little slow, that is to say deep pockets, old U.B.P money bags.then they would sit him down and say Craig you know that was not a good statement to make and to blow your cool like that was really a nail in the coffin for us, so we need you to go back out there and face the people of this country, because you know the session in the house is aired live over the radio and thousands are listening. and you yourself craig have to admit that there was a serious racial under tone in your voice, now you know many of the black folk Craig is going to find every way possible to now throw the race card at us, especially those guys at the union, the P.L.P has long been known Craig to see everything black and white so why are you playing into their hands, this is exactly what they like,Craig it is Christmas and in a few days we need you to make a state address with your Christmas message and tell the people about this Jesus you say you serve and they have to see you as a God fearing man and restore their faith in us, and after the holidays we will take this issue back up and you can let them have it anyway you want to bang them up side their heads.

By that time they would have had to much booze in their systems from the increase in Sunday sales that they won’t have time to think about your comments because they be to busy trying to get out of the debt they are in just from Christmas and oh how we made out like fat rats from their purchases. So for goodness sake Craig do a apology and try and look really sincere and we can get over this hump for the holidays. don’t forget to make special mention of our seniors after all they like to feel important to and they are the real strength of their families, we get them, we get the whole family, lock , stock and barrel. lastly Craig try and do something about your emotions, you almost went over board and we the committee would hate to see you make the same mistake Ewart made when he talked in a public setting about not going back to the plantation.

ok Craig there you have it the opinion of us five who are senior to you and politics.

      • Ain'titfunny says:

Keep it short. Always check spelling and grammar.

        • I dropped out of school at 14 so why the heck you want me to worry about spelling and grammar, when you got the meat of the message.

I know people who have been to college and university with degrees behind there names who sound just as dumb or dumber then you, education is a key, but even fools are educated.

Intelligence is more powerful then all the Phd’s and every other letter you put in front of a name, I only responded for others who feel inadequate to write on these blogs because of folk like you who don’t have nothing better to do then nit pic.

Have a great weekend and don’t forget you can purchase liquor on Sundays , so you may need a drink right up until then.

          • Mike Hind says:

I don’t care about your spelling and grammar.

Your honesty and lack thereof, however, is a cause for concern.

            • Wow I better see if I can check myself into the Betty Ford clinic, wait a minute I cant do that they would never believe my father was white, oh well Nelson we were good friends while you were here with us but I never thought the day would come I would need to go to a facility named after you, I better stop in to see my pastor and see if he recommends the Nelson Bascome center for me.

              • Mike Hind says:

This is gibberish. Your credibility is completely gone.

          • Banana says:

“Letters” for education go after the name not before it.

  4. js says:

where did the OBA find this guy

Dunkley needs to step in quick and start using political finesse not veiled threats

    • Don’t be so quick, what makes you think Dunkley has not stepped up and has been in position all along, see you first have to give the people what seems most popular and when the honey moon is over you take that person out of the way and go for gusto, in this case the milk and you can interpret that in more ways then one, I will say as i did under the leadership of Dr. Brown, I really have a problem in being screwed, but if your going to do it, at least kiss me while your doing it so I can get some enjoyment out of it to.

      • Mike Hind says:

“what makes you think Dunkley has not stepped up and has been in position all along?”

What makes you think he has? ANY evidence to back this up at all? Or is this just more specious rumour that your trying to spread?

        • Ain'titfunny says:

Getting tired Mike. What is expressed on blogs is opinion based on what one has heard and not sworn affidavits. When you comment do you present the latter? No!

          • Mike Hind says:

When I post, I can always back it up. Always.

Is it too much to ask for?
Is it out of line to ask people to back up outrageous claims?

            Seriously?

What’s “getting tired” is this attitude of “I can say whatever I want, but you aren’t allowed to ask if it’s true or not”

            • Ain'titfunny says:

Back it up with what??? Use the same criteria for yourself that you use for others and you will never post anything.

Your “evidence please” is getting tired.

              • Mike Hind says:

I DO use the same criteria for myself. Every. Single. Time.

What was said was a rather serious implication: “what makes you think Dunkley has not stepped up and has been in position all along?”

That’s serious. If that’s true, there’s some shady stuff going on and, if it’s true, then folks should know. Why is it suddenly a bad thing to ask people to show that what they’re saying is true? Or to explain why they hold their opinion? If their opinion is based on observation and facts, then it’s something that others can share. If it’s based on nothing more than a weak and partisan political agenda and sour grapes over losing the election a year ago, then it should be ignored and dismissed.

I ask my “evidence please” because I’d like to know which it is, especially when it’s someone like Mr. Santucci, who has a history of vile, outright lies when faced with someone showing any sort of opposition to his posts.

                • For the record Mike just in case you think you know me, you may know about me but you obviously don’t really know me, I have been a community activist for the last 31 years and one can learn quite a lot in that span of time, I am not always correct and sometime very cheek and tongue to piss off the right people.

For many bloggers that think I don’t have many facts already together, I will caution you as I was a very strong U.B.P supporter for many years prior to 1998 and know a lot of history and those that ran the same circles can attest to this.

What I see today is the likes of grandchildren and great grandchildren who have come to the helm, and I don’t necessarily mean become politicians but do hold as much clout as their forefathers.then some continued in the footsteps are their fathers.

I became a supporter of the P.L.P in 1997, a year prior to the 1998 election and those who remember would also remember many comments made by talk radio that actually was part of the cause to why talking politics was banned from all talk radio prior to the election, because many of us was talking truths that the then U.B.P was afraid of and ultimately cost them the election, and the my friend is facts.

I will not discuss here what was said then, but will say the O.B.A will head for an early grave if they continue to take the working class for granted, the older generation tolerated for years the things that this generation is refusing to do.

So bringing facts is not a issue, but truth be told we would be here all day going back and forth trying to prove points and i for one have plenty of time to do it. you must also take into consideration what is the point when you cant change the past and you got those who are hell bent on repeating it and will get the same results, just a lot faster.

                  • Mike Hind says:

So… not only do you admit that you troll people on the internet. Well done.

The rest of that is just a load of nonsense as an attempt to justify making outrageous claims without backing them up.

You’ve repeatedly outright lied on this website in an attempt to denounce or defame people, which puts your integrity into serious question. So… bringing facts, when it comes to someone who has said some of the absolutely false things that you have, IS, in fact, an issue. If you don’t back up your claims, they can – and should be – dismissed out of hand.

It’s ironic that you begin with “…just in case you think you know me…”, considering that you began your false and defamatory diatribe – a hateful rant filled with REALLY nasty things, none of which being true, of course – with “I know you, Mike Hind…”

                    Try honesty. Try integrity.
Until you do, you are just another joke of a demagogue, spewing hate and lies and nonsense.

                  • Sandy Bottom says:

Interesting Duane how you want everyone to know what a “community activist” you are “in case we don’t know you”. Like you’re supposed to be well-known, at least in your own mind.

But you have no problem attacking others based on nothing but empty ad hominems, including race. Take Mike here. I don’t always agree with his view, but there are a couple of things about him. He uses his own name. He has integrity. He will take anyone to task, including me, if he doesn’t agree. He says things he can back up.

And he gets attacked in the most ridiculous ways. You, for example Duane, attacked him yesterday, suggesting he was “in Scotland” for eight years (falsely). We all know what you meant to imply; that he’s “not as Bermudian” as you. It’s pathetic. There is nothing clever about that Duane. It’s the absolute last resort when you have nothing else to offer.

            • terry says:

              Opinions are not back up.

        • I wont expect you to know or understand, your to busy on the other side of the street, trying walking in the right place at the right time with the right people and you will find some surprising facts.

You see I don’t have any political affiliations and don’t have to skip to no ones tune, you can’t threaten me to take all I have or try to destroy me in any way shape or form, so frankly you be surprise how many do sit back and have proof of many things that go on now and in the past.tick to the organisation that you are involved with and continue the good work you do, but some things you don’t need to try and be a overnight wonder and become a overnight blunder.

I walk only in the shoes that I have been given, so don’t try and step on them you may get lost. A wise man once said, only a fool tells all they really know. so Mike I think your intent is good but stay in your lane and let Dunkley challenge me and that would be more my role.

          • Mike Hind says:

            Huh?

            I don’t understand a word of this. It’s… wow.

Are you saying you DO have proof, but don’t want to show it?
            Or that you don’t, but…

Wow. I can’t make heads or tails of this.

As for “the other side of the street”? We were on the same side of the street this afternoon when you walked right by me.

      • js says:

I do not subscribe to conspiracy theories

clearly Dunkley has greater political maturity and deftness of political touch so apart from everything else he should take the OBA government by the scruff of the neck and say damn to the next election

in an environment of heightened political and racial sensitivities it is unwise for Cannonier as the leader of the government to stoke fires and take the low road of veiled threats

where angry actions to follow angry rhetoric the only tourists that will be staying at the new planned casinos will be a contingency of HM royal marines

        • Double Standards says:

What is your thoughts/opinions on Mr. bean’s not so veiled threat of civil unrest and violence in his Throne Speech reply?

Much more dangerous than the Premier threatening to reveal the alleged corrupt practices of some of his Parliamentary colleagues.

          • js says:

Mr. Bean’s response was written and prepared unlike the Premier who was simply running off at the mouth

Mr. Bean talked about civil unrest and violence as a possible consequence of the initiatives put forward in the Throne Speech

he is entitled to his opinion as we all are

Mr. Cannonier however was quoted as saying “no one’s gotten anyone brother but if you want to be gotten and I could let it happen for sure. For sure for sure that’s all right that’s all right

No matter what the context was the language in and of itself is provocative

On my part I wouldn’t compare this language to Mr. Bean’s response to the Throne Speech rather I would compare it to the mother who recently admitted assault at the Purvis Christmas concert

she was quoted as saying “I believe in dealing with it in the streets”

it appears the same may be said for Mr. Cannonier

          • Double standard let me say that some comments when we make them put us in a category of being marked and severally watched by political policing in many forms, so let me go out on a limb.

Mr. Bean spoke merely what is heading our way if we don’t change this course that we are presently on, if you look back in history you would find that black folk can go through oppression for a long time, but there comes a time where enough is enough, and Bermuda is only 24 miles long.

You can not keep exploiting the rights of the majority and expect it to be business as usual, things are really frightening in Bermuda as we speak and when a man can’t feed a child is one thing, but when a family is going under and by the multitudes, there will be a backlash to all this if we don’t have a way of escape, the real first warning lights is when many Bermudians started opting to go to a country we have long despised,(U.K). all because they had no other recourse and now we want to keep pressing the people harder and especially when we got foreign workers do jobs that Bermudians can do and living better then our own.

I can write a whole novel on this topic, you better see what is ahead of you and Mr. Dunkley being on the front line to deal with this level of possibilities better have a escape plan for the people, now some would say were inciting violence, I disagree. the hand writing is on the wall and we better get real, 2014 is fast approaching and it won’t be business as usual according to our premier.

If financial assistance is not meeting all the needs of the people then what next, when the O.B.A decides to squeeze harder and folk like government workers get even greater cuts and redundancies that they did not see coming, and more and more mortgages pulled and folk becoming homeless, oh for the record that is not even the tip of the ice berg.

So get real Mr. Bean is grass roots and sits withing the gates of the majority and knows exactly what time of day it is, and so do many white Bermudians.

            • Bermuda Male says:

Please explain what rights of the majority are being exploited?

Not rhetoric either. Real live examples.

            • Bermuda Male says:

The need to threaten violence displays a severe lack of intellect and leadership ability.

But I hope you guys do create some civil unrest.

You think times are tough now huh? Go on and be violent and see what happens to whatever is left of this economy.

The funny thing people have been feeling the pinch, leaving our shores for the UK for the past several years. But now all of a sudden violence is an option? Did our economic mess only happen in the last 12 months?

Oh and as an FYI this Government had paid out more in financial assistance than at any point in time of the previous administration.

What did the PLP do during a recession? Why the raised payroll taxes, increased the foreign currency purchase tax while also raising duty rates across the board.

What else did they do? They cut funding to charities, reduced Mirrors funding by $1mn, they rolled back the threshold of eligibility for the daycare allowance, they scrapped free tuition at the BDA College and mandated a 5% pay cut for the civil servants (which is higher than the OBA negotiated reduction). They did all this while still maintaining their fat salaries and overly generous pension benefits.

So explain to me why there was no moral outrage when all thus occurred and why no threats of violence ever emanate do rom your camp while the previous administration did all that and more to Bermudians.

              Zealots and hypocrites.

There goes Christmas, I was looking for something more juicier then Turkey to make jokes with the kids around the fire place, while we shred and burn any other damaging things that can hurt our image in the new year. not sure if the logs we got this year came from the old base lands or some where else.

    • Be for real joker, The O.B.A can’t find nothing on the P.L.P that would shock anybody, because the majority of us as Bermudians already know the hurt that some of them did to us but that don’t make it no more right for these jokers to be pushing the knife deeper and making the wound wider. go back to your cartoons and try again.

        • Oh you may just get surprise who is tied into what under the old administration, because if you would take time to reflect, look who the P.L.P mostly did business with, well hell it was not my mothers folks but they sure did enough with my fathers people, and if my father was alive I can see him throwing the pitch fork at me. so talking about making folk accountable, lets talk about the court building, lets talk about the old club med and the list goes on, who really made out like a bandit, including the wharf’s.

          • Mike Hind says:

” lets talk about the court building, lets talk about the old club med and the list goes on, who really made out like a bandit, including the wharf’s.”

            Ok. Let’s.

            What about ‘em?

          • LOL (original TM*) says:

So you just did what you’re upset with the Premier for sayin…..RICH

LOL you got me rollin in the isles

      • Navin Johnson says:

You will eat your words some day Mr .Santucci…just look at the corruption convictions in Italy and France and others…convictions came years after people left office….Jacques Chirac was convicted years after he left office…some in the PLP will cave when the pressure is on and sing…..we are know how rotten they were and there is way too much unaccounted for

  9. Speckled Hind says:

The only issue I have with Craig is he mentioned ‘with god’s help’. When one person talks about an imaginary friend it is called insaity. When a bunch of people do, its called religion.

Almost as ridicuolous as Bean talking about the devil and Harry Potter.

    • Gopher says:

This while you tell your children Santa well come and give them presents. You ppl don’t have a problem with imaginary characters. No, the only reason you have a problem with God is because deep down you know He is as real as all existence and acknowledging that puts too much responsibility on you. If He wasn’t real you’d treat it like Santa Clause or superman

      • Gopher you miss the opportunity so I will go further, you are wrong Gopher, Santa is real and there is nothing you can do or say to prove he is not, but let me slow my role because there is a debate in the United States right now, where a reporter on Fox news was doing a interview and the debate was about Santa being black and white, and the reporters comment was that to believe Santa is black is just as ridiculous as believe Jesus is black and she ended by saying, Santa is white and Jesus is white and they always have been and will be and to believe other wise is just foolish and I quote her exact words as she stated them.

So because this guy comes to us every year at the same time and without fail, you know that he has to be real and the fact that we now see the likes of black Santa, well like in the Bible when God said that to everything He presents, Satan comes also and produces a fraud, man I bet that is what some folk think when they see a black Santa, but what the heck do I know i am semi grey, father was white and my mother a lovely chocolate. that is probably how the milky way chocolate first got it’s name, I tell you I am going to be a genius one day, oh and by the way that will be the black side of my heritage finally surfacing. In all seriousness I get your point and agree with you Gopher, but is there really such things as Gophers.

        • Clive Spate says:

Both of you referring to God as a He just highlights the fact that organised religions are simply boys clubs.

Not too dissimilar to both political parties in this country!

          • Oh but that is were you are wrong, I tread very lightly when using the almighty in any sentence and every now and then my human side comes out and I go and start acting like peter, and then the religious folk call me a devil, but I just go back to me father in heaven and ask what these jokers talking about, God you made Peter and he was commander and Chief on earth when your son was here, Lord Peter would cuss you out and slice you all in one breath, now I know if Peter can make, I sure can.

It is not my fault you give a Italian for a father and half Indian for a mother, you sure you knew what you were doing, and then He nicely answers yes, and say to me but Duane you can ease the people up sometimes and I tell Him,ok when your not looking I will jack them up.

  10. Double Standards says:

    Good for Prem. Cannonier.

After constantly being labeled as a puppet, house ******, fraud, demonic etc. by the Opposition and their supporters it is about time he started sticking up for himself.

Having said that I truly hope that he reveals all and let the truth set us all free…

  12. sage says:

Were these quotes verbatim? This man sounds like he’s functionally illiterate. Why threaten then backtrack when challenged by saying there’s no need to reveal the truth but repeat the threat several more times? What’s in the dark must reveal to the light.

  13. terry says:

I think he is just letting members present at the meeting know that he has (along with others) taken the blades from the fan and sent them to the lab for DNA.
The sheet hit the fan and splattered around the room(island).

It went on and under the carpet. No need for a broom; the vaccume is plugged in.

  14. Don’t worry people it will come out in the next election! So PLP keep playing hardball and make sure the door dont kick u in your A** on the way out!

  15. Freedom says:

Well in all fairness if theres something somebody has done wrong then we should all have a right to know about it. Sounds to me like the OBA are sweeping things under the rug and this was a friendly reminder to the PLP but really.. People NEED to be held accountable if there is a valid wrong doing here. Typical of Bermudians.. turned a blind eye to everything… No we need a party who is going to start leading by example and be accountable to the law! This kind of attitude is the reason the youth here are so rude and gangsterism.. Because people are turning a blind eye and they can get away with it. Never any protocol here.

  20. Ain'titfunny says:

Premier gone gangsta man. “No one’s gotten any one brother, but if you want to be gotten I could let it happen for sure.” Perhaps it’s time to “Make them an offer they can’t refuse.” Watch your back PLP Craig C could “let it happen.”

I’m so lost. What was that whole conversation about? That guy is off, he has no clue about anything. When he speaks I want to feel empowered, he puts me to sleep. None of his talks make any sense. He needs to throw in the towel and go pump some gas…. Happy Holidays!

  24. more than enough says:

as a self proclaimed christian and an elected official(in the highest office)he should understand his responsibility to god and country, and that by seeing the wrong and allowing it to continue, he is just as guilty of these ‘crass’ acts as the accused…fess up

  27. Erasmus says:

Our bond issue is low at 4.25. If the US is 3.6%, then we should be 5.25% and probably will be soon enough with talk of “civil unrest”.

  28. Valirie Marcia Akinstall says:

The point of your premiership is that you pledged to heal and move this island forward in a positive vein, so, if whatever you know is not criminal conduct conducted in public office and used public funds, then your words are hollow, either report it to the police and Governor of Bermuda and/or respectfully shut up. It sounds like you are attempting to silence some-one, and attempting to use diplomacy and parliamentary privilege to do so.

I would not say that I do not care what else has been discovered, but I am just as keenly very concerned by the attempts of the OBA to use the intellectual property of Bermudians overseas as OBA initiatives as you partner with IB to and roll out these new initiatives such as the one that Senator Fahy claimed on Bermudian international internships. This pilot project was told to you in the presence of other Bermudians, and she black female Bermudian trusted you with this pilot project yet you turned it over to Senator Fahy, who claimed it as a OBA initiative. I find the conduct most deceptive.

Cannonier can say a lot because he is privy to the information as the leader of the country? Premier Cannonier, a lot can and has been said questioning your conduct in London in reference to the intellectual property of Bermudians overseas……………………….

Unless you are transparent in your conduct whilst in public office, and that includes never taking the intellectual property of unsuspecting Bermudians who are seeking seed money (funding) for their concepts, plans and/or dreams, but rather rob them of their plans then “whitewash” those plans as OBA initiatives. Betrayal of trust, lack of integrity whilst you sit in the premier’s office say a lot about you, sir, and its not kind.

And I care not about the attempts to justify your actions by your political supporters, as they deny, deflect and defend every action as being in the best interest of Bermuda.

In less than one year, the lack of integrity is transparent from the OBA, at the very highest level.

And now why should we trust you not to use whatever information that you are privy to as leverage against whomever in future to compromise and sell Bermuda short?

Having Bermuda’s best interest is not betraying Bermudians by pirating their future dreams, concepts and aspirations. And if you do not see the value of what I am saying then you deserve the anger and resentment that is being levelled at you for your conduct in public office.

    • Sandy Bottom says:

What are hell are you talking about? What “intellectual property” has been taken? For a law student you really come out with some nonsense at times.

      • jt says:

        I think it is quite evident that she is a law s t u d e n t.

        • Valirie Marcia Akinstall says:

Perhaps Jt and Sandy Bottom would like to share with this forum precisely what their degrees are? In all honesty show us who you both are, so that we can verify your degrees and I will show you my degree in law and I am currently pursuing my masters degree.

A fair exchange, otherwise cut the toxicity, because to humbly state it, empty vassels make the most noise. Stop attempting to put down others as you hide yourselves, are you ashamed that you do not measure up to the standards that you venously ridicule?

          London, England

          • Valirie Marcia Akinstall says:

In all honesty, Sandy Bottom and JT, you two deflect, defend and deny on the issue by attacking others. You do not speak to your ignorance or enlightenment of the issue, just blind defence with venom personal attacks, and habitual deflection. You need to debate the issue not personal attacks.

No-one should be threatening, cautioning or warning anyone else in Bermuda, under the legal cloak of parliamentary privilege, about crass behaviour, examine your behaviour in public office, Mr Premier, it is a betrayal of public trust.

            London, England

            • Sandy Bottom says:

So, again. What “intellectual property” has been taken?

              • Valirie Marcia Akinstall says:

Is this an admission that you are ignorant to the facts? So why didn’t you just ask where are the facts rather than being toxic and dismissive?

I would expect that you post on this blog in a responsible manner, gathering facts and asking probing questions, not being a deflection, defence or the denial orchestrator for your political party.

Sandy Bottom, I would expect you to research it for yourself, it is of interest to you now, so find the information, it is well documented. And I’m not attempting to be insensitive here, but do you understand what “intellectual property” means? If you do not understand, your research is a stab in the dark.

Let me be clear, I do not post on any blog to do the research for anyone else, that is YOUR responsibility, not mines.

                London, England

                • Suzie Quattro says:

I think the point is that an idea does not constitute intellectual property. And taking up an idea does not constitute ‘stealing’ it.

Someone speaks to the Premier and raises an idea, by the sounds of it, to send students on overseas training. It’s not a very novel idea, but it is an idea. The Premier takes up the thought and it gets mentioned by another member of the cabinet.

And you regard that as ‘stealing intellectual property’?

                  • Valirie Marcia Akinstall says:

You may think what you like, that’s your prerogative. Every piece of intellectual property starts with an idea, a minute thought that develops in the final concept.

That ‘idea’ was not only pitched to the Premier, but a formal proposal was submitted.

You may want trivialise its value and ownership, but unless Bermuda considers itself a lawless outpost then, in my humble opinion, it constitutes a problem.

The Premier of Bermuda should be held to a higher standard that when he comes to London and wants Bermudians in London to share their intellectual property with him, first, its on behalf of Bermuda NOT the OBA political party. Second, our expectations are exchanged so that we can get seed money or grants to move forward our future ambitions that benefit both us in London and Bermuda itself. The OBA should not have any claim to this and/or any other London initiative.

If you and the OBA cannot see that the line has been crossed here, then yes you have a very serious problem, it’s called, failure to recognise and establish professional boundaries and ethics.

  29. Victor says:

I wonder if the Premier and AG’s little jaunt to London this past Tuesday has any relationship to his comments; maybe the beginning of the end for certain individuals who may have abused their positions in the past? They returned Thursday, so whatever it was, it must have been urgent…

  30. Valiie Marcia Akinstall says:

If there is something suspect in London, let the Pemier be transparent, not hide behind parliamentary privilege to send out warnings, cautions and/or notices? Whatever he is sending to whomever?

I cannot speak for anyone in London other then what I have witnessed. I know nothing about the Premier’s trips to London, other then regading Bermudians who have been deceived into sharing their intellectual property with him only to be cast aside whilst the OBA takes the glory as iniatives originating from their political camp. These pilot pojects are very critical to the livlihood of Bermudians in London, no-one should have their right to earn their living comprimied by the blatant and blind ambition of OBA politicians seeking to falsely impress the Bermudian population.

deception is their game, starting with the very “formation” of the party, then the placement of a Premier who shows us almost on a day to day basis that he is not up to the job. its really a sad sad situation..

        • Peace on you says:

what is funny is that you are so sure of yourself.
It is also funny that the more the OBA uncovers, the more manic you become. I will tell you something for free, you aint seen nothing yet.

        • Mike Hind says:

Funny how you seem to have a problem with the concept of backing up your claims.

That speaks more to YOUR integrity than anything about me, really.

          It’s weird.

      • Mike Hind says:

        This applies to both sides…

  31. Verbal Kint says:

What’s being overlooked here is that the Premier has a moral and civic responsibility to act on whatever he may know. Not share it, but act on it.

  32. Need Peace says:

  33. Valirie Marcia Akinstall says:

    @Sandy Bottom…

I would prefer if you keep your subjective comments to yourself. I do not know you and it is immaterial who you are and what you do.

If you read more widely on issues pertaining to Bermuda, you will find that the issue of intellectual property is very topical in London. It was the theme of the premier’s brief speech whilst in London addresssing Bermudians at a recent reception in London.

I do not do insults on blogs and will not respond to you in future if you feel that its your only mode of communication.
