35 Year Old Admits Pointing Knife At Landlord

January 27, 2014

A 35 year old man appeared in Magistrates Court this morning [Jan 27] where he admitted threatening his landlord while holdin a knife.

Dimetri Robinson pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article and to behaving in a threatening manner by pointing a knife at a man who is his landlord and threatening him.

The facts read in by Crown Prosecutor Susan Mulligan were that on 6th January 2014, Robinson and the landlord had an altercation that resulted from Robinson’s admitted removal of a Playstation from the landlord’s room.

The landlord had sought to retrieve the Playstation and in the course of this argument, the landlord had told Robinson to “get out”. Robinson had gotten a kitchen knife and had pointed it saying: “You ain’t kicking me out.”

This morning, Robinson explained to the Senior Magistrate that he and his wife lived in rooms rented from the landlord, that he regularly paid his rent; but that the landlord had a drinking habit and when drunk was apt to come around, kick at the doors, and demand more money.

Robinson said that he thought that the man was bothering his wife. Robinson also said that the landlord was over six feet tall, well built, and “… much bigger than me” and that he had gotten the knife as protection.

By questioning Robinson and the Crown Prosecutor, the Magistrate confirmed that this was an ongoing dispute, and that the police had been called and had responded several times.

Senior Magistrate Archie Warner ordered a Social Inquiry Report, set sentencing for March, granted the man $1,000 bail, and then ordered him to stay away from the Spring Hill Warwick premises that he rented from the landlord.

The Magistrate said that an obvious partial solution was for Mr Robinson and his wife to move out. Mr Robinson, who said that he was a self-employed landscaper, replied that it was difficult to get rental accommodation that he could afford.

Sounds like to me another Land Lord throwing his weight around and the tenant had enough. It’s too bad you had to use a knife because in the eyes of the Law that is an offence. But clearly the Land Lord is a Pain in the butt. I hope this works out for you and hopefully you can find other accomodations and the Land Lord will think twice about harrassing other paying tenants.

Doesn’t sound like that at all… If he was that big and pushy, why would he have needed to old a knife.

what was the tennant doing taking property belonging to the landlord from the landlords room and using it?

If it were so bad living there, then you would move, you would find somewhere else. Even if it mean’t going back to parents or family member.
