Man Guilty Of Assault And Swearing At Police

January 31, 2014

Ashlee Clay, 28, pleaded guilty in Plea Court today [Jan 31] to using offensive words to police, assaulting a police constable, causing $545 damage to a policeman’s spectacles, and obstructing police.

Clay also admitted to driving without a licence and was fined a total of $2,350 and also ordered to make immediate restitution of the $545.

Read in by the Crown Prosecutor, the facts supporting the five charges came about after Mr. Clay failed to obey police who were re-routing traffic past a road accident on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish on January 29, 2014.

Mr. Clay swore at police and, when stopped in relation to that verbal abuse, officers became aware that there were several outstanding committal warrants for him.

This led to Mr. Clay exiting the car and struggling with police, in the course of which he knocked one policeman to the ground, breaking the constable’s spectacles in the process.

Mr. Clay was Tasered and subdued. He was then taken to Hamilton Police Station and processed for this morning’s Plea Court.

Asked to explain his actions, Clay told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that his mother had “just passed. I’m sorry. I apologize to the officers.”
