Somerset Trojans Win Friendship Trophy

Somerset Trojans are the 2013/14 Friendship Trophy Champions after defeating Hamilton Parish 4 – 1 at the National Sports Centre today [Jan 1].

This was the final game in today’s triple header, with the first match seeing the PHC Zebras win the PDL Final after defeating the Dandy Town Hornets, while the second match resulted in the Somerset Eagles defeating Devonshire Colts to win the Shield Championship.

Deunte Darrell scored the opener to give the Somerset Trojans a 1 – 0 lead in the 7th minute, and the Trojans hoped they had doubled the lead with Leo Burgess put the ball in the net, however it was ruled offside. The Somerset Trojans would take the 1 – 0 lead into the break.

In the second half, Sean Brangman doubled the Somerset Trojans lead when he out jumped the Hamilton Parish goalkeeper Che Clarke to head the ball into the net.

Seven minutes later the Somerset Trojans went ahead 3 – 0, when a cross saw Clarke drop the ball with Darrell on hand to put the ball away.

Hamilton Parish pulled a goal back in the 67th minute to make the score 3 – 1, however Brangman scored for a second time in the game in the 78th minute to earn the Somerset Trojans a 4 – 1 victory.
