January 13, 2014

Ilkeston FC advance to the next round of the Conference Youth Alliance League Cup following an 5-2 victory against Mansfield Town, with two of those goals coming from Bermudian Rai Simons.

Ilkeston went into a first-half lead in the 8th minute, and Mansfield equalised in the 28th minute to make the score 1-1. Ilkeston FC restored their advantage soon after the break when Bermuda’s Rai Simons scored, and Simons then scored again to put Ilkeston up 3-1.

The team then moved into a three goal lead, however Mansfield scored again to make it 4-2. Ilkeston then scored again to take their lead to 5-2, where the score remained till the referee blew the final whistle. Rai Simons had the chance to grab a hat trick when he was selected to take a penalty, however the Mansfield keeper saved it.

Ilkeston FC will play Luton in the next round which is arranged for Wednesday, January 15, kick-off 1pm.
