January 8, 2014

A 24-year-old British woman pleaded guilty in Court today [Jan 8] to importing just over $60,000 worth of cannabis into Bermuda.

ZBM News reported that prosecutor Takiyah Burgess told the court that Lauren Davis arrived on a British Airways flight and proceeded to collect one checked duffle bag before leaving the airport.

She was arrested shortly after leaving and police found just over 608 grams [1.3 pounds] of cannabis inside the duffle bag.

Ms Davis initially appeared in Court last month and was remanded in custody. The Court heard was working as a hairdresser at a local salon and imported the cannabis on 14th November 2013.

Her remand continues and she will be sentenced at a later date.

Someone added an extra ’0′ to make it sound like a lot ;-)

    • Come Correct says:

What’s the baggage weight limit? 50lbs? If just over a pound is worth 60g I’m filling that b***h and taking my chances. I assume they forgot to include the crack they were smoking when they did their math.

    • Family Man says:

It was actually cannabis RESIN, hence the higher value.

      • haha says:

In other words hash/gum…..still NOT dat much!

      • Will says:

Hash is cheaper than cannabis flowers in almost every other country….except for here for some stupid reason.

  2. BobTheBuilder says:

they must be mistaken. 8 pounds is worth about that. They must have the expensive piece. And since when do they raise the value of the weed to do the strength of it in the courts. S.0.B’s. Weed sellers are buying mansions then huh.

  3. My question is Minister Dunkley going to allow police to destroy it or keep it in evidence lock up until it becomes legal later this year, then sell it from the government clinic.

  4. darren booth says:

why did they arrest her right away.why not wait and see who actually paid for it?

    • sage says:

They think she is going to ride around on her scooter after work peddling $100 joints, and sell it at work, no one coerces mules here they are all apparently “lone wolf” operations.

    • Ruthless says:

What makes you think they don’t already know who actually paid for it!

  5. sage says:

That adds up to $2,763 per ounce, gold peaked around $1850 and has dropped to around $1250, we can thank the war on drugs for this, so theres no wonder unscrupulous people will force vulnerable ones to take the risk (and invariably the punishment), or people in need of money get involved. Inflated prices (although they reflect the maximum possible retail value) only encourage more attempts.

  6. Kangoocar says:

Hopefully her deportation papers have been prepared by now??? Yet again we depending on the CS to have done this??

  10. MoonShine says:

How about we just follow Colorado and get ourself out of debt and increase the flow of money on Island? At approx $200/oz combined with our expensive hotel rates..we can cash in on having marijuana boutiques on Front Street.

    • Will says:

because that would require two things politicians lack: Balls/courage and logical thinking.

  11. bermuda born says:

  12. spilt milk says:

    Quick math…
So your saying and est. That 1.3lbs is 60k? So your also saying est… 217lbs per week is consumed in bda.(unlawfully)
    So thats 46,140 per lb… 10.01238 mil a week..
    120.148 million roughly a year….

Lb in jam is 100-150usd. as seen on drug inc…………

    Math sucks!
